Button Quail, what color is s/he?

Alright, I'm still trying to process everything. You said the last one was either ivory red breast or silver red breast. How can you tell red breast from a regular silver or ivory? I saw pics of some silvers, and this looks (in my totally untrained eyes) like a regular silver male, because it doesn't have the red/pink under feathers, but it is starting to get a bib (I can't tell if it's creamy or white though).

http://www.chinesepaintedquail.co.uk/quails_pictures.html

At the bottom, there is a pair of regular silvers, and up a tad bit, there's a pic of a silver red breasted male. Mine has the bib more like the male regular silver, where it is like a large white patch, instead of just a white line like the silver red breasted on there.

Gah. I looked at your site, and this one looks a lot like mine...

But, the bib isn't quite as defined on mine (but could be because s/he's still feathering out).

Alright, that's it, I give up. I'm going to shut up, because I obviously have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about. Comparing PICTURES to PICTURES, my bird seems to have more of a creamy bib than when I compare my live bird to pictures.
I'm sorry that I'm such a pain in the butt with this. I'll post better pics and just let you lead me, lol.

There, you tell me what this bird is, because my guessing is probably making me look incredibly stupid and unobservant. Thanks so much for taking the time to listen to my idiocy and help me out, lol.

Here are pics of the other two, just for fun. The little cinnamon something is just the coolest bird, it's so neat to watch him change.

Ok, I know it can all be confusing. It was to me too when I first started out. Let's forget about bibs totally for the moment. I actually do not sex by bibs at all as there are exceptions to this in the male. The Blue Face and it's varieties including Blue Face, Cinnamon Blue Face and Slate do not have bibs in the male or female. The males all have reddish vent areas in them. The Cinnamon, Red Breast, Normal and Blue Face males all have reddish vents. The Silver, Silver Red Breast and Slate all have pinkish vent areas. If you forget about bibs and only go by the vent area feathering you will be right each time as long as the bird is old enough. They all look like females to start.

The difference between Silver and Silver Red Breast in the male will be the bib and amount of pinkish feathering on the breast area. The Silver male will not have as much pink feathering underneath and has a larger bright white bib. The Silver Red Breast male has a lot more pinkish feathering underneath coming up high on the breast. Their bib is one thin bright white line. Once you see the two you will notice big differences. The Ivory and Ivory Red Breast are the same in their differences. The Ivory comes from a mix of Cinnamon and Silver making it a very light bird. They look almost white until their patterning comes in. They also look like a white chick with yellow down. They are quite pretty and one of my favorites.

How old is your Ivory chick? The age will help me with my determination of what it is for sure. I definitely know it is an Ivory and I am pretty sure at this point that it is an Ivory Red Breasted hen. I see patterning coming in on it's neck area which is related to the Red Breast. I do not see a white bib either. Bibs can be on males and females. You just have to remember the females "bib" is not bright white like a males. It is usually creamy inside with a colored line around the edge. The female bibs show up on the Red Breasted version females best. Males bibs whether big or just the one white line like in the Red Breasteds are always bright, bright white. Buttons actually are very easy to sex once you know what you are doing. I can tell what my chicks are mostly by 2-3 weeks old.

Forgot to add that your Cinnamon is a Cinnamon Red Breast. He is quite striking and has some nice red feathering coming up his sides. He is going to be a very nice looking boy. I would hang onto him. Looks like they are all Red Breast varieties which makes sense since I am sure they are related being from the same breeder. My very first hatch ever was a hen who sat and hatched 16 eggs!! She is on my website with her 16 babies who all made it to adulthood. She was a Red Breasted hen and her mate was Red Breasted as well. They had Silver Red Breasted, Cinnamon Red Breasted and regular Red Breasted all in that hatch. A very nice variety. Since then I have learned that Buttons are quite mixed as people are trying for new colors and mixing them so much that you never get a pure hatch. Anyway, you have some nice looking birds there!

Thank you. I'm not sure why, but this just doesn't want to sink into my thick skull, lol. I'm not 100% sure how old they are, but I believe that they're 5 weeks old. I bought them on January 3rd.

Why no buttons? Do we need to convince you to get more? Lol. Button Quail Heaven is who I "expect" to answer button questions, while you're my "go-to" for coturnix.

I think I've got a "game plan" for my buttons. I like the ivory red breasted, the regular red breasted, the cinnamon red breasted, the curly ones and the splashes. So, I'm probably going to try to get a pair of each of those, plus a white pair (simply because I already might have a pair, lol). Six pairs isn't too bad... That should give me a dozen every 2-3 days, which should be ok for swapping, right? Or will I have to get a trio of each flavor?!

haha you're a goof! get as many or as little as you want! I think a doz every 2-3 days is more than enough...you'll be swamped in eggs in no time LOL!!!!

No no i dont need back in buttons! LOL! Coturnix quails and their various colors and all my chickens they are enough! LOL! I love the little colorful gems (buttons) but im just more fond of the big dumb dumbs they call coturnix

Bah, no such thing! What, with pickling eggs, scrambled eggs, trading eggs, hatching and selling chicks, hatching and feeding to snakes, etc, there's no such thing as too many, lmao.
And, what's wrong with having coturnix, chickens AND buttons? Hmm? Lol.

By the way, I sent someone your web link, they were asking something about tuxedos vs british ranges.

Nothing wrong with having two types of quail and a type of chicken.

Except that I'm overrun with eggs for everything except the Seramas
