Hello, when I got home from work, I noticed that one of my button quails--I think he is a male--had a wound on his ear. He had a little blood on his feathers. He lives in a cage with what I think is a female.

I removed him from the cage and put him in a cage with two button quails that I know for a fact to be male and female, and the injured button quail almost immediately attacked the male. Now the injured one is in his own cage.

1) What should I do about the wound? The small animal vet is not in today.
2) It is possible his partner (which I think is female) did this? They never fight, and when I saw them this morning, they weren't fighting, either. So far, they are not calling for one another. How long should I keep them separated?

I seem to be having a similar issue with one quail. I isolated it yesterday and this morning the wound had healed into a scab. However when i returned it to the flock the other quails started pecking and drew blood again. I have isolated the injured bird once again. What course of action would you advise ?

Keep it seperated until fully healed, feathered back out. There may or may not be an issue with reintroduction, so be prepared to seperate any birds that are bullying, or have aggressive behavior towards other birds.
