If you have a light on them, you should start seeing eggs soon!

Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain :

The silver in the second photo from the bottom (in your first post) is a male. You may have a mix with the silvers, though... I had a white male in there with the silvers.

Yeah, there are 2 like that. But they are just silver. The second pic with buttons in it (which is the 4th pic I think) shows one with the 'spikey' feathers on it. There are a couple like that. But when they were babies, there were yellow ones with grey stripes, then there were some that were grey with yellow stripes, so that's why I think there are 2 different kinds of silver.

They have a light during the day, but not at night anymore. But it has only been a few days since they stopped getting light at night. I had tried around Christmas, and it was not good! I had them in a 'box' that had 1" chicken wire top. They were ok until someone went in the room. I think I had to catch 3 of them, they had popped up and went right through the wire! So I kept it on them until everything was back to 'normal' and have been turning it off for about a week. But I'm sure I'll get eggs, whether I want them or not!

I think you're right on the redbreasted hen being a redbreasted may be a darth vadar hen redbreasted though as she looks a tad different but it's hard to tell without seeing in person.

I actually sold all of my button quail to ak_button_mama on Wednesday. I miss them, but I don't miss them... they were a lot of work with the really cold temps (currently -28F, and we haven't been above -10F since the day after Christmas...) But, our youngest boy saw all the button eggs that I hadn't boiled up yet and asked if he could incubate them for a 4H project.

I can't say no to that!! So there are 39 eggs in the incubator.

But I'm not keeping them to breed. I told him he could keep a pair, but any extras that hatched would be sold.

awh im suprised you sold yours AK! I think yours were the best sellers amungst us freaks! LOL! I too am getting out of mine. Only keeping a hen that's more pet than anything (she's a sweetie- Pippin). The rest are going! I say to some that I might get back into them in the summer but i highly doubt it. My mom and hubby love their calls, I do too they're cute but they're too..... spazzy, too, un-affectionate. LOL. I'd rather breed siamese fighting fish again, atleast they interacted with me! I take it back though Pippin does interact with me, hence why she's staying...she thinks she's a persona fter all or she thinks im a bird...

Hey all... I am finding the buttons are very spazy... my barn door sticks and I have to kick it to get it open... (builder error-and I built it!) ayway since i got the little bits home I find one or two in the barn wardering aimlessly every time I go out. I need to get some bubble wrap in the cages I have them in. I just put them in cages that they cant "pop" out of but that will be bad for thier heads I think!!!

Yes, I have had a few boinkers already! They are not used to having something that either doesn't give or they can't pop through! I'm hoping they will get over it, it would be very hard to make their cage boink proof!

Thanks Niki... I had a good time sharing the eggs with everyone, but this year I'm going to concentrate on the bigger birds.

I really like the Chukars, and I'm going to get the Georgia Giants to go with my Jumbo Coturnix.

Most do figure it out eventually, and if you don't sneak up on them, they're fine.

There were a couple in the larger groups, though, that would continually bonk their heads when you reach in to feed them. If you can figure out how to feed/water them or collect eggs without actually reaching into the cage, that will help.
