Buying a coop.

I'd say that generally building is better than buying, and you get much more for your money! You could also commission a handyman to build one for you. You will get a much more spacious and sturdy coop that you can customize to fit your needs that is WAY less expensive then a prefab coop, which are usually small, flimsy, and not made with the chickens' needs in mind.

Buying a second hand playhouse for children is a cheap alternative for a prefab coop. You do have to make a few adjustments of course but a playhouse offers more space as a small prefab.

A customised garden shed is a good choice too. And if you buy a chicken prefab, go for something twice the size as the description (for size and number of chickens) lets you believe is all right. For 4 chickens you need just 1 nest box. You probably need to build a larger roof as standard within a year or 2 to let the coop last longer.

You also need a big and solid run to give the chickens some outdoor space.

If you want safe chickens and a long lasting coop, I would personally build one. Most of the coops that are store bought (aka pre-assembled) are not predator proof and will not last very long.
