Buying a home for my babies any suggestions???

You could always put out an "In search of" add for a used chicken tractor or someone that could build one if you don't have any luck. You might also try posting on your state thread on here, someone may be able to make a suggestion based on your location!

I am thinking about getting this coop

It looks like everything I need.
Does anyone have any better suggestions.
I know I only have 5 but if these work out I will want more.
I wont be buying this one write away because I am still looking but chances are this is what I am getting.
Thanks for all the help you guys!
Hey, I just watched a Youtube on this very chicken coop setup..... you should check it out to get a better idea of the size and it's features. I'm not sure if you can link it here but you can do a search for, 'Coop Review - Innovation Pet Kit, One Year Later' - She goes over it pretty well, maybe it will help you in your decision in buying or not.

I can tell you that the pre-fabs always over estimate how many chickens they can actually accomodate.
I am aware of that which is why I am looking in to this one that supposedly holds 8 because I figure then it should be perfect for my 5. Thank you for making sure that I knew that.

That won't hold 5, not unless you're planning on doing some alterations plus add proper run space since the birds will not be free ranging. Going by the measurements listed, it's large enough for 2.

You need to do the math on any prefab you're considering. Coop space should be a minimum of 4 sq ft per chicken not including nest boxes, so 20 sq ft for your flock. If you're in a climate where you get extended periods of cold, you'll want to go over minimum as there'll be days the chickens might not want to come out. Run space minimum 10 sq ft per chicken, so 50 sq ft.

If in the future you do decide to add to your flock you will need more space above the minimum as integration takes both time and space.

So I watched the video and this looks almost perfect my only concern is will it have enough room for my 5 chicks when they grow up?

No.

This video?
Note that she is in South Texas.
Yes that is the video that I watched I was also thinking about just buying a large chicken run like a huge walking on that is 6.5 x 10 feet and then getting something like a dog house and modifying it what do you guys think about that? :hmm:plbb
