Compliments of hubby's technology budget at work I have $1000 of technology money to get myself a new computer. I know that I definitely want a laptop, but beyond that, I'm pretty clueless as far as technology goes. Suggestions would be MOST welcome! Anything specific I should avoid?

For my money I want to get a laptop, a nice carry bag, and maybe a printer. Any thoughts?

Figures, I now have the green light to get a new laptop, which I have wanted for eons, and we're in the middle of a three day long snowstorm. It has been coming down for over 24 hours, and isn't due to stop until Wednesday morning. Uncle!

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Officemax and Walmart are good resources, they are trying to keep up with the electronic revolution. How about a cheap $300.00 one from Compaq? Same stuff as the $500.00 one HP, except a different sticker on the front!

Learn from my mistake though, get a dual core processor!

1. Are you wanting alot of storage for photos, videos, music, etc?

2. Do you definitely want a CD/DVD drive?

3. Do you want a CD/DVD burner/writer?

4. Do you want wireless capabilities?

5. Do you want bluetooth capabilities that allow your cell phone to connect to the computer? There are toggles available for around $20, but it's just a personal decision.

I bought a netbook because I have another laptop that I will use for my photos, videos, etc. It's currently at the shop...

The netbook was $298, works great and I love it!

Ha ha - I totally agree! I don't have much direct experience with MacBooks but my experience with my DD's iPod and my MIL's iPhone (both of which forced me to use their iTunes software) have led to me declaring I will NEVER again buy another Apple product. In my experience Apple products are sexy (i.e., LOOK great and fun) but otherwise are poorly designed and built and their customer service totally SUCKS.

Ken has something against their innards. Not sure what it is, but he says something about it not being able to handle large loads of data. My son bought an iMac and Ken is always having to fuss with it for him to do his schoolwork - photoshop.
