Buying a vacuum, best one for pets?

I have two big dogs that shed tons of hair. I love my Oreck. It was expensive, but they service it for free yearly. It's an upright, but it came with a small cannister that I can carry over my shoulder to get cobwebs and under dressers etc. It has been so worth the extra initial expense.

Dyson!!! I have had 2 (first was left with the ex), two different models, but neither were the animal one. Both were great with animals! We have the yellow one (a model below (or so) the animal one)...we have 3 indoor/outdoor dogs, 1 indoor/outdoor cat and one indoor kitten and the occasional sick hen in the house. Plus, our house is in the desert, so we get LOTS of dirt blowing in. LOVE the Dyson!!! Wouldn't own anything else! My mom has the Dyson animal with 34 indoor/outdoor dogs and 2 indoor cats and she loves it too!!


How much do I love the Dyson? When DH and I moved in together, I didn't have a vacuum (left first one with ex and was staying with my parents (and their dyson) after that). DHs vacuum was a horrible thing that didn't suck up squat. He asked what I wanted as a gift for our first Xmas together. A Dyson!! He still thinks it was a horrible first Xmas present, but after 7 years, I still think it was a great gift!!

I have a 5gal shop vac, with the floor attachments - we have all hardwood.
I use the bags for it to save the filter from the extremely fine dust that we have around here, otherwise I have to clean the filter on it every time I vacuum. Fortunately 5gal bags will hold a LOT of dog hair so I don't have to buy that many, and bags, filters and spare attachment parts are easy to find at WalMart, Lowes, Home Depot, etc.
Nothing hard to find or difficult to replace!!!

Dyson is so expensive, especially if you don't have carpet to justify the cost.
When we did have carpet we had an Eureka Commercial model that I got from Sam's Club and it was a great vac. I didn't have a dog then, but I had waist length human hair!

it was about, 12years old, I had another last 36 years before it died. I found out that the motor went in mine and it would cost over $400.00 to replace the motor, so I would rather eventually buy a replacement Rainbow for that price that's newer.

the real greate thing about the Rainbow is...
you know how all vacuums after a year or 2 you can smell a dog smell when you vacuum? you don't have that with a Rainbow because of the water.

I have 2 Dyson Animals Vacuums. I love them. I was thinking that the older Dyson was dying, and I was looking to get a new one. Well DH said wait a minute and he managed to completely clean out the center of the vacuum cleaner. At 10 years old it is still going strong. A mix up managed to get me the new Dyson. It is the one with the ball. I love it. It is defiantly easier to use than the original one. I no longer have any carpet in the house, but I do have a couple of good size rugs that need vacuumed most of the time. I have a Komondor, and 5 Yorkies, that are running in and out of the house all day long.


So Dyson is my choice of Vacuum.

Can I line the ShopVac with a garbage bag? So it would be easy to take out rather than dealing with the dusty mess that I have to take it outside and dump it in the garbage.

Hubby said it could not be done because it will tear up the bag inside while you vacuum.
