Buying day old chicks

Quote:
MyPetChicken isn't taking orders until February (darn it). I'm ordering from them because they all THE only place that sexes bantams and they have small minimums. I've not ordered from them before but I've heard very good things about them.

I've gotten day olds form McMurray and was very happy with them. They are all thriving out in my yard at this moment. Beware the free exotic chick from McM is almost always a rooster.

My grandfather ordered from Ideal and got some deaders every time, but he ordered hundreds of meat type birds at a time so not surprising to get 1 or 2 dead out of 200-400 chicks.

I ordered from My Pet Chicken last year...The chicks were healthy and the customer service was great.. BUT don't rely on the sexing to be accurate. I paid extra to get 6 pullets and I got 4 cockerels and 2 pullets. The quality was nice but what a pain in the butt it is finding homes for the cockerels. They did refund the extra mony I paid to ensure females.

So Conroy, basically you have to order what you know will be female, like BR's or Red/Black Sex Links, or whatever brand is sexable out there for there to be guaranteed pullets. Or are there other breeds out there that are more easily sexed?

I'm not picky, just need 3 more girls.
