Buying Pullets

Ashley doesn't have any pulleys for the rest of this season... I really wanted to get some now. If I can't then I will be ordering some from her next batch... I am looking for good egg layers... 6 of them, maybe 2 each of a breed. Good with kids and hearty for winter months

If you are wanting 3 different breeds, I would suggest Black Australorps (very calm and gentle, and the best brown egg layers of the standard breeds), Buff Orpingtons (very gentle and calm birds with beautiful golden feathers), and Black Sex Links (Black Stars), which are not actually a breed, but friendly hybrids that are egg laying machines. Whatever kind of chickens you eventually get, good luck with your flock.

Thank you!!
I do want Buff Orpingtons... I hear they are the "lap dogs" of chickens :-)

If you haven't decided what breed/s you want.
I encourage you to consider that there are hundreds of great breeds. Make a short list of those that are appropriate for your climate. Then consider your needs. For instance do they need to handle confinement or will they be able to avoid predators when free ranging? There are wants like how many eggs, egg size, egg color, feather color, bird size.
Keep narrowing down your choices till you have a very short list.
Doing all of the above you will make your life simpler.
Dealing with heavy feathered birds like BOs, Chanteclers, Welsummers or Orloffs in a hot climate will be miserable.
Dealing with seramas, fayoumis or cubalayas in extreme cold will be problematic.
If your birds need to be confined and you want Hamburgs, you won't be happy.
If your birds will free range, you'll lose a lot of silkies, polish and houdans.

These are good selection charts.

Still waiting to hear back from my friend. If you decide to do the chick thing instead of older ones I am happy to lend you my "chick supplies" heat lamp, feeder, waterer etc. it really is a lot of fun and really not a lot of work. I am right on the ipswich/Hamilton line sonot far from you either if you need help ;) might be worth re considering if you are wanting different breeds. I would think it might be hard to find multiple breeds about the same age in our area...just a thought...

Ashley just posted on Facebook she has a trio of brahmas for sale- 10weeks old a buff laced and a gold laced the third is gold laced cockerel, don't know if you can just get the pullets, but it's a start and worth a call :-) good luck !

I just heard from my friend, he has golden comets for $15- just started laying about 3 weeks ago
