Really wish there was a way for me to keep a continuously running "pinned" type of file on this thread. I find value in gathering and organizing resources like important links, PDFs, photos, etc. I can't even go back and edit post individually in the thread to keep it running that way bc the edit option is on a timer. Just posting them randomly as I find them on here isn't a great option either bc they will definitely get lost in the mix of everything here. Being able to pin them all in one place over time would be perfect. Anyways- here is a link to a pdf I'm finding interesting at the moment on breeding for disease resistantance.

It's been a busy few months and I haven't updated anything on here in a while.

The Bresse have grown out and I have decided I won't be breeding forward any of the males from that hatch. I am satisfied with the pullets but will have to find a much better rooster to continue with that project. I may be putting a pin in that project completely in favor of focusing on the Faverolles for a while. I don't think very many people are working on restoring that breed back to a true dual purpose bird and I think that's what I will do. My particular birds are already early maturing at about 6 months. Most exhibition lines I've researched didn't start laying until twelve months or older so 6 months is nice. I would like to get them to the 16-20 wk mark that the Bresse are consistently at. But they must also be decent meat birds with fast growth rates and decent fleshing of the males by 16 wks. Once I have I few more hens to work from I will start monitoring growth rates on everyone to make sure I'm selecting from birds that have good early growth and fleshing rates.

I kept back one Ermine Easter Egger Pullet from the fall season. Photos of her below. I'm very pleased with her so far.

Which brings me to the most exciting news that's happened here lately and that is the new breeder birds I purchased this week from Russell Blair. I honestly cannot thank him enough for the opportunity he blessed us with with these breeder birds from his program. I am over the moon in love with them and am looking into small local poultry shows now to allow my daughter to compete either with these birds or some of their offspring later. I got bantam Ameraucana's in Lavender Silvers (my absolute favorite of all of them), Wheatons, Blues (with beautiful lacing!), and a pair of blacks that are silver based. Those blacks I intend to use to improve my Ermine line and my LF lavender Ameraucana's- right now I suspect both lines are gold based and I believe if I change them to silver based I will end up with much better color.

Here are video clips of everyone. I got a box of chicks from him too. Lavender Silvers and some blues which I will post photos of tomorrow.

Seriously - I am so in LOVE with these birds 🥰 They are gorgeous and I am so excited to be able to work with such a great line!
