Day 4: extravagant tail!

I loved these endangered Ecuadorian hummingbirds. I tried to capture a feeling of motion (with only marginal success 😂) in the wings. I thought these were such beautiful birds!

Hey, mine were usually cartoonish too! For a lot of years I did comics (in notebooks, not the little boxes, though my later ones have graduated to that), so I have plenty, non-referenced, characters that I'll draw anywhere, particularly my chicken characters. Now, my newer chicken characters I don't draw all the time, I do bring out my references that I've done of them just to be sure I'm not missing any details.
I'd love to see some of your horse drawings! Just maybe not on this thread. We don't want to derail it. Maybe over on the Artist thread?
Ooh, I'm honestly not sure that I have any of the non referenced horses lying around anymore. 😅 I have one that was referenced from my 4H horse, but otherwise, they might be gone (or at least still back in Ohio).

Dude, same. It was a co-op for me, and I was like, “I don’t want to shade a sphere, I want to draw a DiNoSAur.”
Ahh, that was me in my drawing basics class. 😂 I had an awesome teacher though, she never made it boring even though we had to deal with some more boring course material. This was when I was ten. Actually, the HS art class I did was supposed to be taught by her, too, but she moved so she did a video series and her friend taught the course (who was also awesome in other ways) based off of the videos. Oh, and the original art teacher was still the one grading and everything. She recognized my name on the list and sent me a note about wishing she could have taught me again. 🥲 Love her.

Wow! I love the metallic gleam of the feathers, they have lovely subtle undertones!
Thank you! I was impressed, too! 😅😂
I would be surprised if anyone here is drawing without a reference... Every bird species has so many subtle details you would miss when drawing them for the first time!
Oh yes, I know from experience how hard it is to remember all of those tiny but important details when free drawing something like that. It takes hundreds of hours of practice. The people who can have incredible talent and skill!

I didnt feel like drawing a peacock or finding a different kind of bird
So this is fictional
And sloppy cuz i did it in the middle of writing

For whatever reason, I didn't realize they had tails until now. As much as I love Arne, you need to draw more of these. :love

Extravagant Tail: Day 4

I went with something simple today. I did a white Phoenix chicken. I love the Phoenix chickens and hope to someday get some. This particular one is of my cartoon character, Chipzen, who I've had for over ten years now. This is done in my (updated) style I've had since 2017.

(@SunriseChickers, I sorta had you in mind as I was drawing this. I did this completely without a reference (well, I had to refer back to the Birdtober picture to make sure I was spelling "Extravagant" correctly, lol) and this is one of my characters from my comics that I was talking about. I did change his style a lot since I used to draw him all the time, but I still did this without referring back to his 'new' character reference.)
