Day 12: free bird! I drew New Zealand’s Kokako, which is the rarest bird on my life list. We saw these beautiful birds earlier this year when we visited NZ, and I instantly fell in love with them. Such beautiful birds! Hopefully their populations can increase with diligent care.

For the Free Bird I drew another Harpy Eagle because I wasn't that happy with the proportions of the last drawing and I wanted to get a head shot with more detail

I'm actually super happy with how it turned out, it looks really artsy.
I used the white gell pens!

Thanks! I love how it has the perfect amount of stylization and kind of blends into the background. It actually looks better than the reference photo in my opinion. Here I am bragging about my own art but it isn't often that it turns out that well.
I love painting on those little 5x7 sheets because it doesn't take too much time to get a nice little watercolor painting, and then I can have a whole little collection of separate tiny paintings. And they are perfect to give as little gifts which I hope will be the destiny of this one, hopefully my friend doesn't stalk me on byc and see it.

Although I just found out it's not totally scientifically accurate because the reference looked like this and I thought their breast was solid black but now I realize they have a white belly below the black collar XD

I wonder just how far my white gouache can go XD
Or if I even want to touch it
