Miss Prissy, can you maybe set a date for when the dicussion might start and how much of the book that discussion might include? That would sure help me with how many nights I put down the crochet to get to the same place as everyone else with the book!
I finished the book the day before yesterday and am ready to discuss!! Hurry up, hurry up!!
Please avoid plot-line spoilers or post "SPOILER ALERT" at the top of your respose.
Proposed first topic (not a spoiler for those of you who haven't gotten through the book yet): author's choice of character names:
1. Norman Marek, the Gallinipper representative - "Acute Marek's disease is an epidemic in a previously uninfected or unvaccinated flock, causing depression, paralysis, and death in a large number of birds (up to 80 percent). The age of onset is much earlier than the classic form, birds are four to eight weeks old when affected. Infiltration into multiple organs/tissue is observed. " How did this character represent a disease on the Cassowary farm? Is "Marek" an inside joke?
2. Gallinipper's wife, Bunny - passive character, passive name... What are your thoughts on how he selected/pursued his wife in college and then went on to create an empire of passive animals?
3. Rhea - "Rhea (mythology), beautiful in Greek mythology, one of the Titans, the sister and wife of Cronus, the mother goddess who gave birth to many of the other major gods and goddesses ". Why did the author select the name for this character?
There were other names I can't remember right now. I'll go back and review some of them.
Thoughts on the author's choice of names in the book? Did these choices add to or subtract from the character development? Did you notice them? Did they advance the story line? How/why?
JensPeeps I'm with you on the name thing. I finished the book 8/1 and have dying waiting for the discussion to commence.
There's too much weight to the names to be accidental. And look closer at Gallinipper foods. Gallus is, I think, Latin for chicken. So his company name is chicken-nipper. Coincidence? I doubt it.
My other observations have to wait since so many people are still reading the book
I'm not real good at this patience thing, folks... <sigh> Guess I'll keep reading Breaking Dawn until more people catch up
I received my used paper back book a few days ago.
It's in excellent condition...looks brand new. I finished the book today.
Can't wait to discuss it. I'm w/ Wegotchickins...off to read Breaking Dawn. Thank goodness I've had a few books to read, so I didn't have to fight my DD for that book. LOL!!!!
