Any hernia

Well for a diaphragmatic hernia in an infant, you'd need a CT or MRI to see the extent of abdominal organs that may be in the chest cavity. Somehow I don't think that's what you are asking.

Hernias can occur throughout the body and the location will determine the tests needed. If near the skin, you can also feel them.

You can't see the internal ones.

hernias that are near the skin can pop out in a nice finger of tissue, or a big one would be ...well...bigger. But you would have nice smooth skin, and then a big area bulging out.

Umbilical hernias often look like a small hotdog popping out of the belly button...

then hernias on the anus....

sheesh! So many kinds!
