BYC Café

Melatonin, isn't that what your skin/body produces when you are out in the sun? So is it the melatonin or the hard work outside that kicks my butt?
Morning! Love the coffee.
I got the DS$ a ticket to the Tulsa Nationals in January. That should be a great experience for him and I wish I could go but leaving the DH with the critter chores in Jan. is not a nice thing to do.

Melanin
Melanin is a broad term for a group of natural pigments found in most organisms. Melanin is produced by the oxidation of the amino acid tyrosine, followed by polymerization. Wikipedia

Melatonin is a neural transmitter. Your body naturally produces it when you are ready for sleep. You have a lot of it in your brain when you can't keep your eyes open

Morning, thanks for the tea. It's green lemon ginger today.
I feel guilty for not taking the little one to the christmas "party" playgroup today, but I don't think I'm up to it. Too dependent on tissues.

Warm front is here, snow is wet, could definitely make a snowman today...but it's a little too wet, mitts would get soaked.

Maybe someone else could take him?

Margie I think that might be Vitamin D. Also in milk and OJ ha

And i dont get outside enough so maybe that's why I'm so sluggish :lau
I posted what it is. Melanin is the pigment that respond to light. It sounds like melatonin but they are two different things.

Like para thyroid is a completely different gland from a thyroid. They sound similar but do not work together at all

Oh yeah, sorry, I did see that but i thought they meant something different. Rereading the post i think they meant what you posted and it makes more sense because they sound so similar. I hadn't realized melanin responded to the sun though but it makes sense, it protects us, right? Like darker people (more melanin) dont get burned in the hot areas/strong sun, right?

Sorry, wasnt trying to be a jerk, the vitamin D thing was the only thing i knew that the body produced in the sun. Suppose i need to read more hah

No problem! I bet it is still related to vitamin D. Back before we used sunscreen, people became tan in the sun. Tanning is the change in melanin. Vitamin D would be higher in those with a tan.

BTW, Vitamin D protects against skin cancer

I love that snowman!!

Here you go Al...enjoy!
