That's a great point about getting them tamed to be able to evacuate if you need to. I hope you never need to Margie.

x2! I worry about fire here all the time.

This is what I am surrounded by:

(that's looking dead on level, not down: that stuff is more than head high.)

During our first 5 years here, we had 6 fires, either on our property or just across the property line on a neighboring one. I remember calling my husband as he was on his way home one evening and telling him, "as you come up the road, it's gonna look like the house is on fire, but don't worry, it isn't - the fire is on the lot behind us."

But Margie, your mentioning leading your sheep conjured up a childhood memory for me. My father was in the Army, and we spent 3 years in military housing near a base in a small town in Germany. The local shepherds grazed their flocks near the river, and walked them down there and back on the roads right past the apartment building we lived in. The shepherd walked in front; he usually had a dog or two that would gather up the stragglers that tried to grab a quick bite on the lawns as they passed - a very pastoral scene that you sure wouldn't see in today's subdivisions!

That's a nice memory Bunnylady. Where was your father stationed in Germany? I'm curious because DH was born in Germany while his dad was stationed there back in the '60's. And I was fortunate enough to take a trip to Munich once. Loved visiting Germany, beautiful country and 99.9% of the people we met were so friendly.

Yep! Like the comedian once said, "It's a small world but I wouldn't want to paint it"!

Seriously. Just painting a town is beyond this ol' gal.
