BYC Café

What's really sad is, I have to take a life of an animal that's only doing what is natural to them...they don't see it as an economic disaster!
It just goes to show, no matter how well built, designed, and protected a pen may be...predators will find a way!

Well, finally caught the momma coon last night. Caught her 3 babies last week, 1 each night. Their little raiding party, cost me 7 Reeves , 3 Bianchi, 4 Red Golden pheasants and 8 Texas Blue Scaled quail. :barnie
They bite their toes off, tore them to pieces, and mangled them so badly, had to put them down.:hit All this done through 1/2" HC.
Guess I'm goning to have to redo all my outdoor brooder pens using 1/4" HC
I thought they were predator proof, oops, think again.:th

Sean, no way I can "like" that situation. Sorry for the loss of some of your birds. You make a good point with your last statement...predators have 24/7 to figure out how to get what they want and it's tough to fight that.

Good morning Cafe, time for coffee!

Margie, good to see you in the Cafe! You're cooler than we are, but I've been enjoying these mornings in the 40's and days in the 70's have been nice here.

Morning! Raining here but not as cold. I don't know Sean. My six strand wire and T-post fence was less than $500, easy, and it goes all around the house, coops and down to the sheep areas. It is good for 65 miles of bear-proofing. It has battery and solar panel hook-ups if needed. You probably would not need it that high as most of your critters are smaller. I bet if you kept an eye out for used t-posts, possibly used clips, it would pay for itself pretty quickly, depending on the value of your birds. Check sales and take time to make this cheaper for sure.
