BYC Café

I once kept a stud dog for a friend who was going through a divorce. Old Toby knew when HE wanted supper. 4 PM during regular time and 5 PM during DST he would start non stop barking until fed. Other than that he was quiet. Our golden knew when the Princess should be getting home from work and would go and sit by the front door about 15 minutes before she was due. Animals do have a clock.

Apparently this ruined the man's reputation as a behavior scientist, but after I read it, I started paying closer attention to my dogs' behavior. I had two dogs in particular That were spot on.
One night my girl dog went to the window and waited. I knew that my husband would be coming home from scouts with our son, so -knowing that, I assumed she did too.
Then five minutes later, she walked back into the room and laid down.
20 minutes later she was back to the window.
about a minute later, she came back and laid down.
then she returned to the window and waited until they arrived five minutes later.

I asked why they were late and my husband said that they had walked out to the car with the leader and were talking, then they went back inside to do something, then talked by the car again and left.
It was the same timing as the dog's.

I had another dog that we had to spell around, and then when he caught on to that we started spelling backwards, then we figured he just read minds and words were not that necessary for him to know what we were planing.

They already know hand signals.
Flash cards, maybe?

I am glad that we get to think they love us unconditionally.
The dog that read minds... I know he swore.
We'd say,"Don't give me that look!" and then he'd glare harder.
...and then start laughing.
Honest, he'd crack a smile and then laugh.

I'll have to read that book too. My dogs 'know' when my SO is coming home. Even before the car is around the corner, they get excited. We've tested this by having him call me when he's close, but far away to not hear the car. :)

Well, I did it. Garbage service cancelled. My SO is so worried (I'm a tiny bit but know we can do this). It feels a bit like when I decided to cancel our landline. I had those 'what it' questions, because it was back in 2002 and pretty rare for people to only use cell phones. Now it's second nature and more and more people only have a cellphone.

Anyway. Hopefully the kids will adapt. They're already very good about thinking about where garbage comes from and how to reduce it anyway. ;) and hopefully the chickens won't add a huge waste dimension to this!

When you get something really yucky or trash-worthy, go fill up you car and use the trash can by the fuel pumps. That will work most times.
