BYC Café

My eldest bought a house on the outskirts of Bristol UK a couple of years ago. She's married and they both work. Neither earn decent money. The family clubbed together to raise a deposit which wasn't far short of what DobiLover paid for her place in the picture.
The house price with a postage stamp of a garden at the front and an 20 foot patch at the back was one hundred and thirty five thousand pounds. The house looks onto a main road that feeds two motorways close by and the local docks.
It was a bargain in UK terms, despite needing a complete interior strip out, new plumbing and electrics.
Holy moly! You get used to seeing pretty low prices in rural Alabama. 71 acres with pasture, woods and streams. Utilities already patched into the infrastructure. No house yet of course, but available for $87,000. Just a few miles from our house too.If you drive thru' the outskirts of Tuskegee you can find little houses every where for $10,000 and less. I couldn't believe the difference from Baton Rouge or back in Ohio! This is a pretty cheap place to retire.

That's the kind of story I want to hear more about! Do you have more pictures we could see Tonya? :pop
Yes but they aren't very good! The house isn't done. Not by a long shot.

The roof over the porch and the screened in room on the deck are going in this year so the roof will be redone then.

Beautiful! I'm sure all your house flipping experience has come in handy. That big deck is great, what a nice place to hang out!

Wow! Very nice, big change from the first pic. Is that a basement window I see?
Yes.
We are not using it for anything but storage though. We will eventually seal the concrete and run a dehumidifier down there to keep it dry.

That it is. On the left side of the deck in the picture will be the gold fish pond with waterfall. Right outside my bedroom window. The last one we built was 1400 gallons, 2.5' deep. This one will be similar in size.

Good Morning All! It is a hangout and rest day, for the most part, around here today.
Sorry about the finger, Shad. That is not a way to start the year out but I guess better than having a hand injury in summer.
Your house will be awesome when it is done, DobieLover. Nice find!
Thanks for the coffee and you can keep the now eaten breakfast, Sean.....

That will be pretty cool. Our dehumidifier works really well, so well that we have to dump over a gallon of water per day. Hubs never had one till I moved in, he really didnt think it was necessary, but my allergies got bad and I had him bring it in from the shed. He was dumbfounded when he saw all that water!

Good morning Cafe.
Coffee is on the stove.
Baked Okra in a mustard sauce in the bowl. Watch out they're a bit on the warm side. I may have overdone the chilli a bit.:p
Fingers isn't terminal. Fractured the bone between the hand and first knuckle.
I hit it with a sledge hammer driving in wedges to split a log.:he
Never mind, nothing time won't heal.
OW! Hope you heal quickly!
