BYC Café

Morning! Still here with power even. DH pulled hose uphill and dug handline on the fire yesterday.
A property owner was burning piles a day or two before and the coals kicked up and ran with the winds that came in. He just might be in trouble or fined, don't know.
Tomorrow DS$ and team head off to the other side of CO for regionals. Another day, another new experience! Have a great day!
Thanks for the coffee, Shad. Sorry you are staying warm that way....
Beautiful quilt, Cap!
Happy Valentines Day! Hugs to All!
Thanks Margie, good luck to DS!

Sorry about your girl, Shad. :hugs It was a very sweet send off.

Makes me feel just a teeny bit bad about leaving my two girls far away in a field for someone to make a meal out of. I hate to see a life wasted.
There's nothing wrong with your approach DB. If I didn't bury them I would eat them.
I do eat those that I kill, but those that die under my management, often mismanagement, I bury.
I suppose a lot depends on how you view the other species on this planet. To me they are of equal worth, but with a different skill set and different physiology.
That spark of life isn't any bigger, or better from one species to another in my view.

@Shadrach, Sorry to hear of the loss. Nice send off. I agree with @N F C, that whole thing about "better off dead". I've had pheasants live 7 years with wry neck. Yeah, I probably should have put them down but "who am I, to play Creator?" May not have been the best of life but at least it was life.
I should have put Dink in this thread but it's a bit old now.
It was a good thread with some very thoughtful comments.

This is basically why I did what I did. If another creature had one more day because my lost girl filled it's belly, then she didn't die in vain.

I am not one of the "sit outside with my shotgun and blow every predator I see to smithereens" chicken caretaker. The predators are just trying to survive. The chickens are here because of me and it's my responsibility to ensure their safety.

Hi everyone:frow

It's been rainy and cold all day, there's muddy puppy prints all over the enclosed patio and I'm not cleaning it up until the rain is done. I can't wait to get that dirt covered out there with some pavers, good grief. 2 puppies, I must have been crazy.

I'm off to shower, then making quail stew for dinner. Have a good night all.
