BYC Café

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if there might be room at the table for an Aussie? It's a long walk for a cuppa and a piece of cake, but I'm keen!

My name is Krista, I'm 40 years young, and have been married for one year to DH who is 51. We have no children, but believe it or not we have an appointment in a few weeks time to see someone who may (or may not) be able to organise IVF so that we can have a baby. I am hoping it is a case of "all good things come to those who wait" but I am trying not to get my hopes up in case, well...you know.

Hubby is a farmer, and I met him at university about 8 years ago where we both got our Commerce degrees. I am a qualified accountant, but I promise not to talk too much about that if you let me join in

!

I have chickens here (I say "I" have chickens because hubby is not really interested in them much) - 6 RIR hens, 2 BO hens, and one rooster call George - also a BO. I also have 3 chicks (well.....they are actually about 4 months old now, but they are still my babies!) who are a cross between George and the RIR's.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi there!

Hubby (the Herd Manager) and I are dairy farmers, so we grow....cows! But hubby's brother (the Pasture Manager) manages the fodder system for our animals, and he plants Maize, Lucerne, Vetch and Ryegrass mostly.

It's only a small farm, and because it's Summer here at the moment, we aren't growing much. We usually buy in fodder during the hot months.

Hello, I'm new here too and will post more later (tough on my phone!). Look forward to chatting.

Best of luck krista with the ivf.

Thanks for the good wishes, I'll keep you posted on our progress.

I see (from your avatar) that you have pets too? Other than my chickens, I have a couple of cats.

Look forward to chatting to you, and everyone else.

I think we will have fun at this cafe' Good thing they have really big tables here.
I only knock into people because it is my way of saying, 'Hi",

Krista I am on the other side of the world -top side too.
I always wondered why we got top and you all got bottom (or under.) I mean , how exactly do they know that the compass needle isn't pointing south and south is top and north is bottom?

Lol, I knock into people because I eat too much cake and have a booty that swipes cutlery, food, coffee cups and napkins off the tables behind me as I walk by!

Just kidding....!

Excellent question @3goodeggs . I'm not quite sure how we ended up being known as 'down under' either. It is very well known that we are though. Even our Prime Minister made a speech a few years ago declaring us to be at the "a_ _ end of the world!"

I think if our PM is making those kids of comments it says a lot about Aussies and our crass sense of humour!

Meanwhile, here today it is 105F (40C). This is what we refer to as STINKING HOT! Just went out to see my poor chickens and two were lying on their sides, heat affected. There are now 5 sprinklers going, 7 water points, and 4 feeders. The chickens, in their wisdom, have sought out a cool spot in the compost heap.

I hope they all make it through ok....
