It's sad for the area. There is a lot of bad blood here from the civil war. This was an anti Franco region. There are families here split because of this political divide. The land that these houses are built on was sold by a family that supported Franco in the civil war. In the war one of the sons of this family was shot by the pro Catalan movement. Ask around and the locals say they developed the land like this out of spite.
Yeah, the 'holiday' houses and their part time occupants are not on my favorites list. I see them in the villages and on the roads. Too much money and very little respect for anything except more money.
I know one of the local guys who takes care of the animals (not the dogs) for a couple of the houses.
He has some horror stories about the treatment of the animals. There is a poney at one of the houses. They bought it for their daughter who had a bad case of the 'I wants'. The pony is kept in a shed that is so small it cant turn around in it.
This guy takes the pony out for an hour, or so a day.

We have leash laws here in the suburban country, but too many people see our land and think, oh, my dogs can run free. Psh, when I had a toddler and chickens on the property, I shot at I dunno how many dogs. I suppose rumors got around because there aren't any more dogs running around. Toddler is 10 and I still have chickens.

same thing for lots of animals though I suppose. But I also see far too many people who know nothing about riding or horses riding totally incorrectly or sometimes even cruelly and potentially hurting the horse. And even not riding, all sorts of contraptions used totally wrong both in saddle and lunging, saw a post today with pics of horses with their heads so far tucked in/to the side, cause they tied them in like that, soooo overflexed, and idk how they even saw where they were going, then people wonder why the horse is lame and blame the farrier or vet, or they use way too harsh of a bit or too harsh a hand, etc., and the poor horse pays the price. I’ve even seen people get mad at the horse, way over correct it, and all sorts of stuff, for “misbehaving” when it is very clearly the rider’s fault and/or the animal is clearly in pain but nope, he must be bad. 
Far too many people should not own animals. Sorry for the rant lol oh and btw, yes I know there is no real “right” way to ride or own a horse, just like with chickens, there are many different things that work for many different people, and I am not opposed to different techniques, training methods, tools/aides, housing, etc., etc., cause the same thing will not work for everybody and what works for one person or horse may not for another, so I don’t judge, BUT, there are some things that are just flat out harmful and/or cruel to the horse and people do them. Granted, I think a lot of people just don’t know and certainly wouldn’t hurt their horse intentionally, but even that kind of goes along with my point too. Far too many inexperienced people own horses. They should at least do some research before owning one.

Spent much of yesterday putting together a canopied patio glider. Evidently I have muscles in places I didn't know about. It hurts to walk down the cellar stairs yet the shoulders are not any worse than usual. Go figure.
