BYC Café

I just started the new season today. Love it so far. I haven’t watched Marvel stuff in a while haha watched a bunch of the shows (Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Iron Fist, The Defenders) like a few months ago but hadn’t watched The Punisher yet but I kinda branched off. Watched a bunch of the Marvel movies instead then kinda branched off from Marvel and didn't watch anything for a while. Was watching NCIS and Hawaii Five-0 on TV but the seasons ended on both of those. So anyway, I just recently watched all of Broadchurch and I’ve been trying to watch Sherlock too. Loved Broadchurch. Like Sherlock too but the episodes are so long and it’s such a “smart” show I get tired watching it and trying to pay attention/keep up haha not really a late night binging type show which is how I usually watch TV. Might start making an effort to watch it earlier though. Or might go back to Marvel haha trying to watch every show and movie. Anyway, watching Jessica Jones at the moment.

Good morning Cafe.
Coffee is made.
@CapricornFarm Sorry to read about your snake problem.
Thanks Shad. It is to be expected when you live in the middle of the woods. I fixed the small area near the feeder where I think it got into the cage. I use hardware cloth, so it keeps most of them out.

It's rats here. They don't bother the adults but they will break open eggs and only once fortunately, before I built the new coops, I've had rats attack and kill newly hatched chicks.

Good morning Café.

A friend of mine has a GSD, it's the biggest goofball I have ever seen, big lovable dog but at the same time if something triggered a bad response it wouldn't be a pretty sight ...that dog could do some serious damage to something or someone.

Greatest animal that I have ever known was a GSD named Rhon. He worked on intimidation to protect the home and property. Never bit anyone but was defensive towards cars that entered our property. He would stand by them barking until I came out to greet the people, and then he was fine. He loved kids, and the Jehovah's witnesses used to send their kids to the door until I discovered my unique method of stopping visitations.

I have no doubt that he would have died trying to protect me our his family. He's been gone a long time, and I still tear up over his loss. I never had an inclination on being owned by another. This dog was just too special. Training is a big factor, but I feel that genetic background is even more important.

Dh and I went to eat late yesterday afternoon (Cracker Barrel), and on the way back I noticed a sign that said German Shepherd puppies for sale. On a whim, we stopped in. We talked with the owner for quite some time. First off, the pups are at least 5 months old, and on the skinny side, with dull coats. One of the females, she's not selling. I asked why she waited so long to start selling them. According to her, she didn't wait, but she doesn't advertise, or list them, she only puts the signs out by the road, and these are what she has left. I suspect they had parvo, and they're just getting into decent enough condition to attempt selling.

Secondly I asked about how they got along with other animals. Well, she had a cat, but the parents killed it. They've also killed other cats that have wandered on to the property, and have taught the pups this behavior. I mentioned we have 2 cats. Then she added "they're German Shepherds, so you know how that goes". I listened, without commenting, but no, I don't know how that goes. Growing up, we owned a couple good German Shepherds. They got along fine with my poodle, cats, and cockatiel. I've heard, and seen a lot of ads complaining about this breed not getting along with other animals. Maybe it has to do with us raising ours with other animals, or they were of a better temperament, and disposition, but neither of my German Shepherds had problems with other animals. In fact, they were a herding dog, so all of this high level "other animal" aggression is somewhat contrary to what their true nature should be.

Thirdly, they are not AKC registered, but NKC registered. NKC registration can be very iffy. The dad looked good, but they would not let us see the female. Too aggressive for them to control. Not exactly the temperament I'm looking for.

She was only asking $1,000.00 per pup. I'll pass.

One of Franks best buddies is a German Shepherd. It's certainly about the way they're raised. They've had all that time now to learn bad habits from the parents, poor puppies.
