BYC Café

Good morning, Café - it's gonna be a b'ball sort of day. At least 2 games with the possibility of more.

Back in the newlywed days it was hot, and the Princess who doesn't handle heat well wanted an air conditioner. Me, "I grew up without AC, and it is unnecessary." Later that night when I felt quite romantic she replied, "It's entirely too hot for doing that." I bought an air conditioner the next day. Have I ever mentioned that the Princess is far smarter than me ?

As for the pugs lives being in danger, hmmmmmmmmmm. :lau

Good luck to the b-ball boys today!

Sour, that is one smart woman you married

The electricity & water bills out here are crazy high already. We use very little electricity during the day & my bill is still about $225. Add some fans & a portable ac it doubles.

The same thing happens at Christmas with all the lights. It makes me very Grinchy. We've been slowly switching the holiday lights over to LED & hoping it'll make a big difference.

You all know I'm a retired house flipper but may not know I graduated with a BS in Environmental Chemistry. I'm big on green building. So I used that technology to renovate the house I'm in and plan on retiring in. My electric bill is never over $100 a month, usually $80. I have a little window unit A/C that runs all summer long and we put a fan in the doorway to blow the cool air into the public space. I pay no more than $350 to heat my house for the year. I love my little house.

Note to self: Dobie is a chicken stalker :gig

You have no idea just how often I spy on them!

:lau As long as she's only stalking her own flock! You haven't noticed her peeking into your coop windows have you? That would be startling :gig

Only mine are fun to spy on. You have to know the chicken!

Yay!!! You have a fluff ball! :yacute little booger!
There are at least 2. I don't want to lift her in case someone else is trying to hatch. This is the second one.

Daddy knows he's a daddy! They all know the chicks hatched. They loitered in the coop this morning instead of going straight to the run. And I only know this because I can spy on them!!! Coop cams are fun!

I have central air and heat, heat pump unit. My electric bill is between $60 to $140 when I have brooder lamps and incubators running 24/7, the average would be $80 every month, and the AC runs 24/7 here in summer. I supplement with a butane space heater during cold months, Dec - Feb. it really helps keep the bill low.

They're adorable Dobie, congratulations! I was a nervous wreck when I had my first broody.

The rest of the girls knew there were babies and loitered as well, but my broody was the Boss so they didn't get the stink eye. She was so proud to show them off!

Barb is still on the nest. She's got Cali's egg still under her but I couldn't see the shell fragments from Amelia's egg. There may be three chicks under her. Cali's egg is cracked so I'm hoping it's hatching. The two chicks I've seen came from the two WLHs, Lucy and Peanut. Daddy passed on his feathered feet and muffs but I didn't think to look for the fifth toe.
When I hand fed Barb again this morning, after she ate a bit she took a chunk of the mash and broke it up and started clucking to the chicks. She is such a good momma.
She was number 2 in command so I am hoping she won't have any problems protecting them. Lord knows she was hell on wheels when she was taking her broody breaks! Everyone got the hell out of her way.
