BYC Café

Good morning, Cafe. Heavy fog this morning - can't see across the road to the pond. Bullfrogs were booming away last night.
Have they spawned yet?
I heard the t meoads singing in the creek this past weekend. The toads always manage to spawn before the frogs arround here. I didn't see any strands of eggs though.

Toads became active over a month ago on an unusually warm day following a rain - they spawned early this year. The bullfrogs, I am not certain about. Last night was the first that I heard them. There would be a crescendo of sounding and then a spell of silence when I could hear the green head frogs, and then the bullfrogs would start again - neat.

Good morning, Cafe. Thanks for the coffee.
It hit 91F here yesterday. So within 2 weeks we had blustery blowing snow and melt your eyeballs heat. Gotta love NY! Who says Mother Nature can't have a little fun with a keg of beer?!
The boys are crowing away out there.
We are headed towards 104F here today

Mentioning FROGS

I imagine all you Americans are very familiar with liquid smoke, but it's fairly new here, and I absolutely love it! It really made a maple-mustard glaze for pork ribs taste like it had been in a smoker for 5 hours, as per the recipe (and I don't have a smoker, so that was never an option). With a rub of smoked paprika, smoked salt, fennel seeds, and asafoetida, the ribs were truly scrumptious :drool
