I dare say you'll have other broodies before long.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo. I don't WANT any more broodies this year! I've had enough.

Ghastly, humid, hot, sweaty and irritating day today.

I too had an irritating day. I painted the living room at my mom's house. Went back in the room about an hour later and there was a big bubble on the wall!? WTH? I peeled a giant patch of paint off the wall that was down to the original surface. Great.

When mixing SLU, you dump 5 to 5.25 qts of water in a big bucket, dump in the 50# bag of SLU, cram your big giant mix paddle in (that is attached to your 1/2" drill) and gently start tapping the drill trigger until you get the paddle going whilst holding the bucket between your lower legs or it will go spinning off.
Please remember, people, not to pull the trigger too hard on your drill least the paddle break free of the SLU and send a tidal wave of sloppy wet cement up into your nether regions and down both legs...

Hot and smokey now around these parts. DS$ is heading off to a wrestling camp in OH.
I suppose we will generally quarantine when he gets back just to be safe. School is now online at the start of the year too so that helps. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Another pearl of wisdom: do not leave your garden harvest bag on the floor when you go out to lock up the chickens. This thing weighs nearly half as much as she does.
She was dangling from it when I tried to take it away.

I don't know when the eggs died but my guess would be shortly after their day under the brooder plate. My fault. Lesson learned.
I opened the sliding door into the coop and Astrid immediately took her brood out, had a big huge wing flap, put the boots to a pullet who got too close, then settled in to preen while warming her chick.

Big Daddy came in but didn't attempt to meet the chicks yet. Astrid puffed up at him so he left her alone.

Many that hatch under a broody hen have a cheap incubator as a backup.
