BYC Café

Morning Cafe good to here you safe Ron stay that way please we did finally get rain that may help with a few fires out here not more than let them handle on the fires .. Ours are in Eastern part of that state just now
There is no rain in the forcast but only one day over 100 in the 10 day. Highs will be in the upper 90s

I think I have a murderous hen in the flock. Yesterday Ruthin was found dead, with no visible sign of injury bar two peck wounds where her beak meets her cheek. any advice folks?

Have you considered that you might have a vampire chicken (Gallus Vampyroteuthis.):p

All kidding aside, I’m sorry for your loss.

Hopefully that should be it for the year. The big clouds came over before mid day and blocked the sun out. They blew away early evening and this let the land heat out. This afternoon was below 30C which I can work with. It's a lovely 23C out there now. Phew...
The chickens have been out foraging this evening. The sheep have come out from behind the shed and the donkeys were running up and down the field. I got 4 coops cleaned out which were way overdue. We picked the last of the grapes and I fixed the electric fence at the end of the donkey field. Tackle managed a day out with the tribe without collapsing under a bush somewhere. She's still limping but nothing like as badly. She's gone to roost with her tribe tonight. Pork chops, mash, peas, carrots, and kale for supper. The dogs are at the bottom of the land barking at the wild boar and I'm about to put some tunes on.

Good morning Cafe.
Thanks for the coffee Shad.
Nice autumnal day here, albeit weeks early.

One of my old books recommends paper soaked in egg white, put on like plaster of paris, for leg breaks. Might that work?

I think I have a murderous hen in the flock. Yesterday Ruthin, 3 months old and right as rain just an hour before, was found dead, sort of trapped under one of the bench struts, with no visible sign of injury bar two peck wounds where her beak meets her cheek. At the time I wondered if one of the cocks had accidentally broken her neck (they are starting to try mate the May clutch). But this morning while pooh-picking I witnessed Usk jump onto the back of Kenfig and ferociously peck at her head, within arm's length of me. I swatted her off, but do not know what to do now; any advice folks?
The leg needs to breathe now Perris so a plaster cast doesn't really fit the bill. I remember what a disgusting mess my leg was when the plaster came off and they fitted the wire frame to replace it. His scales are regrowing but not hardening properly because of the bandages.

Use to Show in what we called the death circuit .. East of the mountains dead heat of August kept towels wet and on ice to put under dogs and over..
air conditioning for them a must hard on dogs and handlers

Used to compete in obedience trials both UKC and AKC with out golden retrievers. UKC holds dual shows/trials - one AM and one PM. One August we watched the BIS win go to a Brindle pit bull (they are recognized UKC) in the AM - gorgeous dog and an absolute gentleman as the judge went over him. PM show it was miserably hot, and he had enough once he reached the BIS competition. As the judge was examining him he did not become aggressive but was excused because of his BELLOWING growling. Not his fault, and the owner recognized that fact. We expect a lot out of our dogs.
