BYC Café

Well, I got a quote of $1530 to replace the electrical box. I'm calling someone for a second quote tomorrow. I don't know if $1530 is outrageous, or not. Anyone have an opinion on this?
Just to replace the panel? I think that's steep.

Don't know. Did they say how long it would take to swap in the new one? I know that when half my house was 90% replaced in 2013 the Master electrician was charging $110/hr for himself and $70/hr for the apprentices.

Google says the 12 kWh Kohler costs $3,200, the 20 kWh is $5,900.

Boy are there a LOT of Generac models!!!! Found a 10kWh model for $3,350 and another for $2,800. There is a 20 kWh model for $4,800. You'll definitely have to figure out what features/functions you want to make a decision.

Quite possibly, the panel itself is likely between $150 and $300 depending on what the electrician is putting in. And I ASSUME they will be replacing all the breakers. They can get pretty expensive if they are using Arc Fault breakers.

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.
We had a tornado warning last night. I was a nervous wreck! I was constantly peeking out at the sky. I was glad when the storm passed and we had nothing more than another down pour with some lighting and thunder.

Thanks for the opinions on replacing the breaker box. I'm calling another person today. It's my neighbor's nephew. My neighbor has had him do a lot of stuff in his own house (good recommendation right there!) and another plus is he'll know how to get out here. We are kind of hard to find.

Same place said $9600 for a Kohler stand by propane generator. DH said no right off the bat on that; he wants a Generac.
Goodness, will it be at least the Platinum kind?

Good afternoon everyone and thanks for the coffee @DobieLover :caf

After 6,5 weeks of devoting herself to meticulously caring for her two remaining chicks, my Dottie decided she's had enough, laid an egg and went back to her flock yesterday evening.

Nasty weather here as well: extremely hot and humid with downpours and thunderstorms, leaving all kinds damage (fallen trees, flooding etc.) in the wake.

Stay safe everyone!

I hear ya!
Just high wind warnings get me creeped out.
Then again there was no warning for the winds that took out all the trees at my place.
