BYC Café

It was 55 today and bright sunshine. I took the dogs for a run instead of immediately signing back on to work. I also had a hen, Dani, that desperately needed a butt bath. So decided I'd bring her into the bathroom and get her cleaned up. It was pretty bad. After her blow-dry I trimmed the fluff under the vent. I hope that helps.

Towards the end of her spa treatment she started talking. Not loud. Just cluckin' away and pretty lax. Piper could hear her on the other side of the door and started whining. After I gathered her up football style I opened the door and made Piper stop bouncing and started bringing Dani down so Piper could sniff her.

I knew Piper wouldn't hurt her. She was just curious. What I wasn't thinking was that Dani would go after Piper. She is a very small hen at only 3.5 pounds. She pecked Piper right in the snout, quick as a flash! She has a tiny little knot on her muzzle. She didn't hurt her but if she'd hit her eye. Now Piper really doesn't like the chickens!

Phew, I spent the majority of the day on Zoom today and am so thankful that that's not the regular schedule of events. Listened to one seminar on cetacean neurobiology, had a meeting with my honours student who has a few things due tomorrow, taught an undergraduate general ecology class as a sub, and then explained to an honours class how to make good scientific posters for their theses. Now it's time to tend to the veggie and flower starts and have a relaxing rest of the evening.
I read that.
I'm tired just thinking about doing all that in a day!

Good morning Cafe! Thanks for the coffee DL!

It's overcast with some brief glimpses of the sun promised for the afternoon. I'm getting ready to make the drive up to Cape Breton - can't wait to spend some time in peace and quite after this three week stretch in the city.

My veggie/herbs and flowers starts are doing very well. It's so nice to see some green around.
