I find the anthropomorphisms a bit much to take seriously but I guess if people need to attribute human characteristics to understand the natural world of plants and animals
I find myself anthropomorphizing at times. Yeah, it does help me to understand plants and animals, but then I remind myself that I'm doing it.

I had a high school teacher who was dead set against it in any way, shape, or form. I think I do it a bit just to thumb my nose at him. He was one of the poorest teachers I ever had.

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.

I took an egg from Jody that I'm sure was a dud. She now has three. Two of those three came from Astrid. She is the one who raised the bantam batch when I stripped Veronica of her maternal rights. I've never set eggs from Astrid before.
Jody is one of the bantams.
Astrid has been talking about wanting to be a mother again for about a week. The conversation is over. She was on the nest last night. She's such a sweet hen she doesn't puff up or screech or try to peck or bite me. She just looks at me and won't budge. Just Nope, I'm not getting off this nest. I'm afraid she's destined for the clink. I'll let her set when Jody is finished with the ward.

What a relief to have this out! My brother-in-law came over last night to help me get the new one in which was no easy feat in and of itself. It's that shiny new joist you can see in the image.

The way I got the old section of floor joist out was I drilled two big holes as high up as I could and then ran my sawzall across it, down each side to remove a large chunk. Then I had to use my Fein saw to cut between the joist and the subfloor to release the glue. That gray cord hanging down is where the center of my toilet flange will be going.
Now I can use my sawzall to remove however much more of that joist I need to further downstream.

We had thunderstorms last night and this morning.

Looks like one of the hens is not long for this world.
She was hovering around a nest the last 2 mornings when I opened up, like she had been hiding in there. Last night she was not on roost but hunkered down in the run. She let me kinda check her over while on the nest perch this morning, barely reacting to being touched or offered treats. Then she got down and hunkered into a corner on the floor at far end of coop.

Maybe egg bound? You could try an epsom salts soak in warm water for 20 minutes or so.

Her stance was normal....and I don't do the chicken savior thing.
Have tried in the past only to watch them suffer longer, so no more.
I would have euthanized if she hadn't died in the run midday.
