As it is with everything. If you pay a proper salary to adequate staff, the costs to the "residents" has to cover it. And how much can they afford to pay daily? I have no solution to this problem.

I agree with you as I was one of those employees.

The pay is nominal in some homes and better in others.

Of course Social Security pays such a low amount for all the years we paid in.

There are no good solutions. Nursing home care is already crazy expensive. It’s a sad situation all around.

Am I misunderstanding this, or if I'm out on the highway somewhere and need to recharge, I will be sitting around for 2 hours? How will they sell that idea for someone driving from Michigan to North Carolina and wants to go straight through with two drivers, as DH and I do?
No ;) The Leaf has both a level 2 and DC quick charger. In theory one can go from empty to 80% in 20 minutes at a DC quick charger. I know there is one at the Hannaford in Essex, VT. Charge while you pick up some groceries.

And different vehicles have different ranges. I don't recall the make/model of the one advertised during the tennis tournament (saw it at my in-laws) but it has a claimed range of 450 miles, twice that of the Leaf. It was bigger than the Leaf, mid-size SUV I would guess. You just need to buy the right vehicle for you. As time progresses, there will be more "on the road "charging stations. You can do it now but planning is necessary, there aren't many thousands of them like there are gas stations. But then there wasn't a gas station on every corner of every city when the gas cars first came out either. Everything in time.

HOWEVER unless you have only one car, there is no reason one of them can't be all electric for the "non road trips". And, it is entirely possible to rent a car for once a year long trips, which will probably cost less than driving a gas/diesel vehicle year round. Also consider that maintenance on electric vehicles is minimal since there is no ICE.

Instead of going to a fully electric vehicle, I’d look into getting a hybrid instead.
Good idea :D My Prius Prime got 74 MPG going 300 miles nonstop (except for traffic controls of course). to Bangor, Maine. Only the last 30 miles was on interstate, the rest was 50 MPH roads through small towns. Plenty of up and down the hills. I used a little electricity getting to my local town (7 miles, trending downhill) then switched to hybrid mode for the rest of the trip saving the electric range for "local" travel in Bangor. I average over 60 MPG on the twice a year 425 mile round trip to the optometrist in MA, all interstate. The 2023 model is supposed to have 40 miles of electric range.

Good morning Cafe and thanks for the coffee, LF.

Piper goes to the vet today for her health certificate, then I'm picking up #130 of food for Brodhi and dropping it off 30 minutes away, then shopping for groceries on the way home. I've still got tons more work to do to get the bathroom ready for the washer/dryer unit delivery.
