BYC Café

Good Afternoon, Cafe’!

For those of you experiencing adverse weather, stay safe! Nice and sunny here, mid-20’s for temps, with highs close to 50 expected for Saturday.

My week took a quick turn today. I woke up with a persistent cough, but not feeling bad, really. As the morning went on, I noticed that my hips and knees were achy, so I figured it was my arthritis and took some ibuprofen. Then I heard from the mother of two of my granddaughters - the girls (5 and 7) both tested positive for influenza A today. Since the cough was getting worse, I went to the nurses office and got tested. It was positive. So, I’m out for the next two days. Wednesday is the last day before Christmas break, so I won’t be back until after the New Year. Local granddaughter also tested positive, and her dad just tested positive for RSV.

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.

Last night, Piper wouldn't stop obsessing over looking out one of the bedroom windows and growling. I looked and didn't see anything but she wouldn't stop. Bella did not join her and that was the only thing that let me fall asleep.

There has been an increase in car and home break-ins in the area. Break-ins while people are asleep in their homes. Probably not my specific area as I'm up on a hill on a dead end road. Not so easy to sneak around up here.

Good morning and thank you @DobieLover for the coffee, I'm a big advocate for home defense and open carry another reason I left Maryland.
We're having DW son and DIL and grandbabies for Christmas eve mid day dinner.
The babies are growing so big, the chicken that can't walk I put in a homemade wheelchair to eat and drink water. She flutters around I stop and talk with her, wish I could do more for her.

We're on a hill, end of a dead end road too. When we first moved out here, there were some break ins in the general area, but not on our road. A neighbor said, "If you think about it, this is a stupid place to come. One way in and out, and someone back here is almost sure to be home. We all know each others' cars."

That said, I think we were "scoped out" one time by a pair of "lost" kids. I think us having a Doberman was part of their story when they gave their report.

I get tired of Freya barking at "weird" noises (like my belt buckle jingling when I pull up my pants in the bathroom??), but I think she will be a pretty good warning system.

Raven, our second Dobe, was the same way. We called her, "our protection racket."

Snowed and blowed all day yesterday, but only about 2-4"total(hard to tell due to winds and the grounds still warmish). Enough to have to shovel a bit of the run and the coop shed steps/porch. One more freezing day/night then back up into the mid 40's and not even freezing nights. Chooks did not want to go out this morning.

Bella is excellent about barking only if she actually sees someone or something on the property. She just stares at the neighbors when they are outside but never barks or growls at them.
Little sis on the other hand... Bella usually does check things out if she barks though.
