And I thought my husband was overly optimistic.
Reality says -if it can go horribly wrong it will.
Our tree guy is a genius in removing tall pines in very tight quarters, but- I still worry for everyone involved when a tree has to be taken down.

All men are overly optimistic - just ask the Princess about me.

The year prior to Sandy we had an early snowstorm when there were still leaves on the trees. A maple on our front lawn split and half came down on our roof, but the butt was wedged against the main trunk about 20 ' above the ground. The tree guy who took it down with NO damage to our roof was/is a GENIUS. I commented to him about his skills, and he said, "In this business either you are good or you are dead."

I'm shaking now. Heard thunder out there and almost didn't collect the eggs but then I realized I HAVE to and had to make sure the roosts were still up (they tend to knock them down) so I did that as fast as possible and RAN in hahaha I'm such a baby

Downpouring now. Chickens were still outside but now are huddled under the coop. I hope they go to bed soon. Just saw lightning. I think I'm more nervous than they are. They know to go to bed right?

Mostly, sometimes not when they are new or particularly ornery.

Hopefully they do, they've been very good about it so far. Lately they don't go to bed until around 8 or sometimes 8:30 because it's been staying light for so long but they start getting in their last meals and drinks of water maybe an hour before. It's only 7:57pm now so hopefully they will soon. Brief break in the rain and even the cloud cover right now so maybe they'll take advantage of that opportunity. We got them as day olds in October and they moved outside at 7 weeks old and have been perfect about going in so I'll give them some more time. Lately we've been leaving the pop door open too so they come and go when they want so I think that helps. The first week they moved out I had to put them in every night but now they're mostly good. They're not old and ornery quite yet thankfully :P

Anyone hear about the New England egg farm? Supposedly it's under investigation but to me it looks like, sadly, normal factory farm conditions.. but supposedly there were dead birds and some other accusations I forget but the humane society filmed the video and they're a big scam and supposedly the guy only worked there a month and was fired cause he didn't follow policy (he was undercover and supposedly their policy is to remove carcasses within 24 hours. I buy it, he probably left them for the purposes of staging the video). It's the biggest egg organization in New England. This isn't about factory farms themselves since I think we can all agree most are pretty terrible but whether you think these accusations are real or fair or staged or what. But supposedly the brothers that own it have also been arrested before/have unrelated charges so maybe their organization is shady. Idk.
