Yeah, I agree, DEFINITELY need more chickens lol

12×12 is 144 square feet so at 4 square feet per bird coop space you could fit.... 36 chickens :p

I probably wouldn't go more that 20 or 30 though but yeah.

Even if you don't get that many, which would be completely understandable cause that is a lot of birds, you definitely have tons of room to expand so I say do it :p

Also you don't necessarily have to get birds from the same flock, you could get some chicks and raise them next to the others. The coop is plenty big enough you could section off a nice size brooder and raise them alongside the others making for easy integration. Although of course you may not want or be ready for chicks yet, maybe next year though :)

Another thing to remember though too is that even if they are from the same flock originally, these 5 have now been separated from the flock for a month so they'll likely treat each other as completely new birds until pecking order is reestablished. So I wouldn't just get more and throw them together. I would still add a seperate integration section and let them live alongside each other for a couple weeks and then maybe supervised interactions just to make sure they all remember each other and will play nice. But your coop is massive so there should be minimal issues if any but I'd still take precautions. You can always then take down the divider later and go back to one big coop :)

And do you have a run? You should maybe consider building one or free ranging if you don't already, your coop is plenty big enough but chickens do like getting outside :)

Oh and welcome btw :D

And i dont know if you saw this but figured if not id quote it.

Anyway, glad to see theyre liking the tractor :)

Nice! :thumbsup

Well, I'd like to free range them but hubby doesn't like that idea. We have woods right behind our property and a section of fence is missing leading there. Landlord isn't concerned with fixing fence, so we'll have to do it on our own when we can. However the coop is already divided into two areas. The back area is 6×12 with a nesting area and roosting bars. Although they don't roost in there. That opens into the front room that is 8×12 with roosting poles, that they do use, and 8ft of wire wall. The whole thing is corrugated metal, roof and sides, with a dirt floor and tucked into the trees. So they do have an outside area if sorts. Does that make sense?

That sounds cool! I bet it's nice and cozy for them!

I bet they are really happy to be out and about. Put them under a tree or place something over it for shade. It is really hot right now and my chicks are spending a lot of time in the shade. I'm thinking about making something like this for a couple of my young chicks.

I have one just for my young chicks. It works gteat, I start putting them in it at 3weeks and keep them in until they are large enough to not be threatened by my cats.

Morning! Day started with a small cup of reheated Joe...., is that even legal? Working on fixing that and waiting not so patiently for it to be done brewing. Anyway, got the DS@'s car up here and out of the way at the fire station so all is well.

Hey Friday,... it's Friday! My local weather dude says that the monsoons will start next weekend in your neck of the woods. Let's hope he is right!

Meanwhile, the weather forecasts for us are not that unfavorable over the next two weeks, with the
really hot/dry stuff staying further west, and a strong hint for the Southwest
monsoon to come into AZ/NM by next weekend.
