Agh, so I keep loosing the alerts for this thread and don't notice, always so many pages to go through!:p

Anyway, I thought I would jump in and save Canada's reputation here !

The knives that are illegal are switch-blade type knives. Pretty much all others are fine: unless you hurt someone with it, then the law says you were carrying the knife with intent to do harm.

So don't stab anyone or carry a switch-blade (or variants), and you're fine.

Here in Edmonton even pen knives/pocket knives are illegal. Maybe it's a city law.

Alaska used to consider some knives illegal. Luckily, that law was changed, you can now carry whatever blade you want, even spring assisted switchblades, or swords.

When we were teenagers we got searched by the cops in a parking lot because they thought we were doing drugs. We were not, but I'm pretty sure they were a bit pissed that they didn't make a 'bust'. Our one friend had a police baton on him, because he was a macho idiot, so they confiscated it. They also confiscated my boyfriends Swiss army/pocket knife which was not illegal. They were asking him if he had it to protect himself making drug deals. Geesh, that was not our scene. But he decided not to make a fuss since his friend could actually get charged with having a prohibited weapon :p

My boyfriend also tried to get into a club once (I wasn't there), and he had a pocket knife he had forgotten about (country kid). So of course the bouncers all started to give him trouble, took the knife and were trying to intimidate him.

Lesson learned...no knives in the city :p
