BYC Café

Thanks for the coffee Sour. I needed it this morning.
3 hours of sleep and lot's to do today. We are going out to eat for Thanksgiving.
But Dh still wanted a turkey and a couple sides to munch on over the weekend.
So he ordered a smoked turkey from one of his friends who smokes them professionally
for people and businesses. We will pick up a couple of sides and a pie this evening to go with the turkey. No cooking here this year.

I prefer online shopping. When I have done Black Fridays it hasn't been bad for me. I'm usually looking for stupid things while everyone else is fighting over big tv's or tech equipment. Sometimes I will go for battery deals for camera, mouse, keyboard, flashlights etc.
I bought a new Steel on a blackfriday deal on amazon. They have it going already and I have been needing one for a long time. It will come in handy for putting the edge back straight for all the food prep work I will need to do over the next two days! Cost me $10.00

Good morning, Café. Anyone else starting the Thanksgiving prep today ?
Technically I started on Sunday when I baked bread to use as stuffing!

Today I will be baking pies, prepping the turkey and baking corn bread for Brussels sprouts with cornbread croutons. I will get up at 5am tomorrow to bake rolls and then the rest of the work. Gonna be a long day! I hope it all turns out

I'm sure it will all be delicious Ron. Anyway, it's Thanksgiving...I think it's the law that at least one dish have "issues"

We usually go to my uncle's house or occasionally we have it at our house with just us or go to my mom's family in PA (both pretty rare) but this year, my brother and his girlfriend wanted to have it so we are going to their house. It is only like 2 miles from us hah they're living in my grandma's old house. I think they are inviting a couple work friends that I assume don't have anywhere to go, her parents and brother (and I'm not sure if the girlfriend is coming or not), then of course us (myself, my parents, and my other brother). I think that's it but not sure and not sure if anyone else is coming. Anyway, it will be nice to do something a little different and have a little change of pace. Going to my uncle's is fun but always kind of boring because we get there early then we don't eat for a few hours then we always stay into the evening/night cause everyone sits around and watches the game or talks, etc., etc. And of course drinks. So it will be nice to do something different. I'm sure we'll sit around there too but we don't have to be there till later and yeah.

That's nice to have it switched up :)
Our thanksgivings would be in the same place for years, and then switch to a new location. Was always my favorite holiday. Big family, often overnight at a cottage or farm, crokinole tournament, everyone helping with dinner, going for walks, playing musical instruments. Now the extended family doesn't get together at thanksgiving. But our immediate family is getting bigger with 11 of us and one on the way.

Thanksgiving prep got a good start today. Who really needs a turkey, anyways?
