Yep, they are and almost as broody as Blacktailed White Japs.
Really liked mine but too hard to get exceptional show quality birds....or at least I had problems breeding show quality.

Back in the day, I bred to show. I had some of the top birds in the nation back in the 70's and 80's (Blacktailed White Japanese).

Now, I raise rare and not so rare pheasants and quail. Because they are disappearing in their country of origin due to habitat loss, war, and indigenous people just trying to feed their families, especially the True pheasants.
I breed them to keep pure lines of the various species I have true to their wild form. So many are becoming so mixed up through crossbreeding it's ashame. And with the ban on importing it's even more important to keep them pure.

It's great of you to put in this effort. I agree it is a shame and their conservation is important.

I was wondering about my quail in the same way and I've started some research.
