BYC Café

In winter I used to go out as soon as the plows cleared the streets with about 10-12 lbs. of winter protection on from boots to face mask and everything in between. In those days I was escaping a very hostile father, which made it easy to leave the house.

I would ask if he needed anything from the various stores. Of course not. But some 6-8 hours later when I came home- he was standing by the door holding his empty Brylcream etc.. I was not going back out - dark by then, and mostly NO sidewalks, narrow shoulders on the roads, if you could find those at all. We didn't have any street lights then. Had to wait for a car coming to light up the area. Also deep ditches along the roads for rain runoff.

He'd pitch quite a tantrum and I would head for bed and lock the door. I think that's where I started napping a lot.

Walking isn't difficult for me on flat, hard surfaces. For some reason grass makes it much harder. Never was good at inclines either - even minor ones.
Can't tolerate hot weather, for me above 70F is hot unless strong winds and prefer overcast days. When I go out on really hot days just feel like I'm melting. Cool days about 40-50F are great.

That's a rather sad memory of childhood DD.:(

Shad, how is your broken finger today? Is that going to keep you from working on your lamps?
It's really not a big deal N F C, but thanks for asking.
Yes it will slow things up for a bit. I'm not feeling very creative atm anyway.
Once the swelling has gone down a bit more I'll forget about it and be back to doing stuff.

OH love to walk at the zoo - lots of shady trees, interesting things to see, lots of souvenir shops (I just look). But the indoor exhibits are not made for human use. Floors are made hilly and lumpy to mimic real ground conditions - just asking people to fall. Never liked that in my younger days and certainly don't like it now. Also low light levels, really too much for my brother who is legally blind in one eye. He has been a very
generous supporter of the zoo for more years than I can remember.

I've told him he should let his opinions be known, lots of older people taking their grand children to zoos and the indoor exhibits are just waiting for some major falls & injuries.
I suppose under state or county laws the zoo is not responsible.

Especially difficult at the favorite exhibit - gorillas. Otherwise love that - several generations on exhibit and the famous "Binte Jua," female who rescued a child that fell into the outdoor moat. She had been taught to bring things that fell inside to a keeper.
She picked up the child ,hugged it to comfort it and delivered unharmed . She was a hero and still is.

I know that feeling Shad. I should have been painting all this time but haven't felt very creative since breaking my bones.

That wasn't my childhood Shad. I was walking as an adult. My mother died at 77, and no one wanted our father. My sister moved to NM to be out of the running. My brother had/has a townhouse with very steep stairway. I think I was about 49 when my mom died. My dad didn't enter a nursering home (by necessity till he was late 80's with dementia.) He lived to 90 succumbing to one of his frequent bouts of pneumonia.

The doctor said dementia patients forget how to swallow and end up aspirating a lot into their lungs. Hated the doctor, he thought if that happened more or less, pull the plug.No way!

It does snow but only occasionally. Maybe you need to go to FL.

Negative Ghost Rider, too humid and they get hurricanes.

Maybe a bit North of our current location. Possibly east. Either way it would be slightly cooler and we would get more rain but we are likely staying in AZ.

I've had a bit of a flat spot most of this winter. I had a brief burst after the last arts and crafts fair I attended and then it sort of went creatively quiet.
That reminds me, I must upload some pics of the fair.
