:weeOne of the eggs is hatching!!!!!:wee
I know most of you are rolling your eyes thinking "whooptie do" but I've never seen a chick hatch and this little one will be the very first to hatch here from our own chickens!! I'm super happy for my little broody girl!
I didn't even know one was hatching and went in to feed Barb. She ate some from my hand and then I lifted her wing and saw the piece of egg shell under her and then saw the chick pushing at the tear in the membrane! There should be a baby in the morning. Geez!! I'm stupid excited about such a natural, simple thing. :jumpy

It's such an awesome feeling to experience it Dobie, I'm so excited for you :wee

I forgot I can spy on her with the brooder cam.
She's really moving around. I also wonder if the others know what is going on because they are peeking in on her through the brooder run pop door, she can see them and is puffing up and clucking at them.

They most definitely know. Last year when my broody hatched a lonely only EVERYBODY came to see the baby. The duck was straining her neck as high as it could go & when she finally got a good look she practically ran into the duck box & barely left for 2mos. (We had to adopt her a couple ducks to break the broodiness, but that's another story.)

It is very awesome and I never get tired of birds hatching. Hence I end up with lots to sell .

Good God, she looks like a small turkey!

She means business!
I don't think she's going to get any sleep tonight. She keeps lifting herself off the nest then slowly settling back down. That chick must be a kicker!
On another note I checked in on the rest of the flock to discover one of the 12 week old pullets roosted right next to my largest hen.
They are in the far corner.
