@Shadrach what do you suppose is wrong with the chick? Was that blood in the picture?

It's the result of shedding bits of the intestines Meg. It's normal. What caught me out was I have never seen it from a chick that age before. Talking to the chicken club this morning its more common at this age than I thought. I took a sample.
One might think the chick had coccidia, but coccidia blood tends to be redder and spotty.
I've seen all three chicks poop both cecal and normal poop a few times since and all the poop looks okay.
One of the guys mentioned that mistaking this for coccidia and treating as if it was coccidia within 24 hours of such a shed can damage the intestines.
I'm very impressed with the knowledge of most of the chicken club members.
One guy for example has a left footed hen. How many people would even notice that.
His left footed hen has the eye functions reversed as well.
If you watch your hens going up a ramp at roost time for example the right footed and eyed hens will all jump onto the ramp on the left side, right eye and right foot closest to the ramp. Quite a few chicken keepers here have coops well off the ground. It makes it much harder for predators and rats in particular to get in; plus you can inspect the underside of the coops.

It has been 10 years so far and I still have about 70% foot drop and a weak right toe. It is still getting better though! Maybe by the time I hit 70 it will be all back

My 2 Tolbunt polish hens made it through the night! That coop has a bad mite infestation, so I am going to clean out both sides and spray it well, then check all the chickens again.

Shad, I'd have trouble walking up the ramp like the chickens do. I am far sighted in one eye and near sighted in the other. If I cover one and not the other I get different perceptions of what is the "middle". I could not walk the balance beams they had in gym class(only about 6 inches off the ground).

Also discovered it was the cause of me being a terrible catcher. It depended on what eye was taking over. Couldn't get spit balls into the waste basket unless I closed the intruding eye. This I learned way past high school.

But good for walking and finding golf balls and miscellaneous change on the ground.

Good for unintentional laughs when first dating, ending up kissing chins, foreheads, ears etc.. Till I learned to shift eyes. Thankfully got much more accurate with that and more.

My Ma had crossed vision astigmatism horribly said they were like washboards okay we use to steal her glasses when she was in the shower then she was tilting to get them back
