BYC Café

Despite yesterdays disciplinary incarceration (within the first ten minutes of being out of the coop, Knock started three fights:rolleyes:) She managed to get all her chicks up the ramp and into the coop this evening. This is great because it means I can concentrate on Bracket who is making zero progress in this department.
This is Knock still shouting the odds at one of the roosters outside.:rant

Oh look, it's that sweet, happy, well tempered hen with her chicks again.

A couple of seconds later she was scrapping again.

I was told, rather unkindly I thought by one of the other people that live here (nobody can leave here atm due to the landslides) that Knock gets her bad attitude from me!!
Well honestly...how rude can you get.:p
She looks feisty!

I wish I had come in here before I had chickens and learned a few things.
You and me both, Valerie. Even though I had “studied up” a fair amount on chickens themselves, prior to getting them, I didn’t study enough, mainly about what NOT to buy in the way of housing. If only, if only, I had found out about BYC first maybe all my poor decisions would have been avoided. However, I chose to listen to a former co-worker and only read what was recommended by her, thus my never finding BYC, only because I never searched for anything.

My little wrongly advertised pre-fab coop is not what I should have bought, in hindsight, but it has definitely been a learning experience. Luckily, it has always been under the cover of a roof, so it is still in good condition and still serves me well in many ways.

As a beginner it is hard to understand when you hear people say “build as big as you can.” I think the realization of that statement is only after the fact. Then you know, that’s for sure!

We all live and learn.
This is the best place to learn things!
Ron, this couldn’t be any truer. It IS the best place, bar none.

Yes please!

Are you the one that ordered the large?

Oh wait, that may have been me.

In the interest of your mental health and the welfare of your animals I suggest you retire from the Internet.;)
I'm sent away in shame??? That didn't take me long....did I set a new record??
Trust me, it doesn't take too much time lurking and reading to figure out who knows and wants to share..:old...and who wants to share but doesn't know. There are so many wise voices here.....and yours is among them,.... Except for that one time when you suggested I leave....:D

I was just talking to my husband about some of the opinions that I read on here. Some are way off in left field to me.

I usually get my knowledge on chickens from actually doing it myself and not getting the information from others. It's best to see it with your own eyes.
Are you really surprised FC? Although I do have to admit there is some very useful information here. Sometimes you have to dig through the weeds to find it.
