Oh my goodness....I just read the entire coop build article. I am blown away. I've been looking at coops for months....and never found one that I could look at without thinking about what I would change. Yours is perfection. I love it and am so impressed with your building skills! I can barely use a hammer...it's just not something I ever had a chance to learn. Congratulatons on a job well done and on the excellent way you shared the process with us! Wowthanks...I will

That's a great set up. I'd like to do something like that in my new coop this spring.I've not had hens hatch eggs, no rooster here. But I have had broodies raise chicks I got from Meyer. I let them park in the regular nests until they are really comatosethen put the brooder piece in the corner of the coop and move the hen there. The top is usually covered with a wire top and a board across it to the hole into the community nest box. They have their own door to the barn alley so the other hens can't get in the brooder area though when I open that door to let the hen and chicks go walkabout the other hens can sneak in and eat the chick starter feed.

That's a great setup too. I'll be copying all you great brooder creators!I put Barb in the built-in brooder in my coop. It has a run on it too.

OH NO!! I was in such a hurry to get back and tell you how much I liked it I left no review!! I will go back. It shows in the finished product that you enjoy renovation. I'm sure working on dad's house is a labor of love....I'm sure he would be proud. That explains why you've been gone so long!
Did you leave all that in your review?!
What can I say? I like renovating things.
I'm working on Dad's house now. I wish he were still alive to see the way it will come out. He'd have loved it!
