BYC Café

Good morning Cafe - Tonya, sounds like you are in your glory.
In all seriousness though I'm very much looking forward to making a nice safe home for my mother. And for my oldest sister. She's supposed to be moving up from Texas before the end of the year and will be living with my mother.
My nephew and his girlfriend on the other hand... I think they should be sent packing! My nephew was supposed to be helping my mother all this time but all he does is complain and the house isn't being properly cared for and then he moved in his girlfriend. Now my mother is supporting both of them. So I suggested mom should start charging them $500 ea a month for rent and they balked when she only asked for $150 each!!! My mother pays for everything except for the cable bill.

How would a rat snake get in the coop?

Our Chicken coop.jpg

Thru the windows or pop doors or vents under the roof. They get in. But here in Alabama it get's over 100* during the summer so we had to make a lot of openings for cross air flow.
So there are 2 doors, 2 windows and 2 pop doors. The pop doors and windows stay open for air flow.

I get the need for tons of ventilation. If you upgrade to 1/2" hardware cloth, they will be secure. All my windows and other openings into the coop are backed with HC.

Good morning Cafe. I put the coffee on and hot water for tea.

My chicks discovered they could jump on the water or feeder and hop on the wire top of the brooder to get out this morning.
lol I put a hand towel over the wire to-keep the from getting out of the brooder this morning. I may need to up the move out date. Lol but they are only 3 weeks old. I would not feel right about putting them in the coop yet. They are still small enough for a rat snake to eat them in one bite. We are going to the lake this weekend. I’m going to have to take them with us.
the back seat is barely big enough for this brooder.
I hope I can fit the rest of my stuff in the truck. Lol
It sounds like you will be having an adventure getting the brooder to the Lake!
