BYC Café

Morning! The weather cooperated for us last night and we finally got to see the comet. It was beautiful! Afternoon showers (monsoons) and highs near 80. I have a banty that hatched a couple of chicks in a shed, we thought she had been eaten, but I think only one survived and DH saw it eating and drinking from the food and water we put in there. We shall see if it can make it out here in the "wilds."
Thanks for the coffee and I hope all is well. Hugs, Penny, it sounds like you had a rough day.
Mugs up, Cafe Crew!

Good afternoon Cafe.
Coffee is made. Still no tea unless you fancy green tea.
Cloudy with the possibility of storms here. Warm enough though.
Catalonia is heading for further lockdowns.:(
People have not come to accept the reality that Covid is not going to go away and adjusteded their behaviour accordingly.

I've been checking the WHO's situation reports pretty much daily, and cringed when I saw what the numbers in Spain are doing. Kinda figured that y'all were heading back into some sort of restrctions.
How did the meeting with your dad go @Bunnylady ?
Quite well, thanks for asking. Dad and my brother arrived at the restaurant a bit before I did, and got concerned about the number of patrons that were coming and going without masks. After a bit of discussion, we decided to sit in the outdoor dining area. It was a bit warm, naturally, and noisy because of the road, but it was shady, there was a nice breeze, and we had it all to ourselves. If the staff were bothered by us parking ourselves out there for almost 3 hours, they didn't let on. We are definitely going to have to do that again, soon.

Good morning Café. Thanks for the coffee Shad.
The new shower drain is in, drains the water (always a plus) and is now embedded in concrete.. The walls are all now in plane and ready for insulation and drywall - today's task.
I smoothed out the master bedroom closet floor to prepare it for LF tile.
The mother feral cat ate from my hand yesterday. She appears to be declawed.

The clock started for Astrid. She's been broody for over a week and a half. I set her up in the brooder room with 4 eggs in the wet nest. She gets to watch Veronica with her chicks. I'll see how I feel about letting Veronica out of the ward when the bantam chicks are 1 week old. They're just so damn small!

to make proper use of it one needs a method of storing and preserving what isn't eaten during the growing season.
Too true! @perchie.girl has a thread on canning and home preserving that's got a lot of good info on it (in case you haven't seen it). If August turns out as you expect, I imagine drying would be an option for at least some of this year's crop... that's never an option here, and I adore sun-dried tomatoes... :drool oh wait - I think you said the toms had been a disaster there this year, so :smack to that suggestion!

Things are not looking so great in NC either, eh?
My daughter lives there.
Along with a half dozen other southern states.
Glad you had a good visit with your Dad.

That's....sad....someone declawed her but didn't spay her? Grrrr!

IKR?
That's the same thing I thought. She still hisses at me. She is scared but I think she wants to trust me. I'm going to keep working with her as the kittens are far more relaxed and curious about me when mom is relaxed and not hissing at me. I'm hoping to get them to the point they will let me handle them so I can take the family to a local cat rescue for mom to get spayed and all of the to get further rehabilitation and adoption. They sure can't stay under the deck when my mom moves in!

I give my surplus food away to friends and egg customers.

Some in the US have not figured out the virus yet. I saw a person in the store yesterday without a mask on.

Daily deaths have gone up a lot this week

Why in the world would anyone declaw a cat but not spay her?

Not as bad as some places, but a lot worse than it should be. Apparently, people between the ages of 18 and 49 make up about 40% of NC's population, but about 70% of the identified Coronavirus cases, while the 65+ age bracket only accounts for about 10% of the cases, though their percentage of the population is significantly larger than that. *sigh* Can't put an old head on young shoulders, I guess.
