Too true! @perchie.girl has a thread on canning and home preserving that's got a lot of good info on it (in case you haven't seen it). If August turns out as you expect, I imagine drying would be an option for at least some of this year's crop... that's never an option here, and I adore sun-dried tomatoes... :drool oh wait - I think you said the toms had been a disaster there this year, so :smack to that suggestion!
I par boiled some French beans for the freezer and I've tried sun drying tomatoes in the past. You need a decent fruit dryer ( a cased in unit with a glass roof here) or the wasps, flies and anything else that fancies a snack gets them. You could of course go the Sicilian route and let grandma sit outside with a fly swat turning the tomatoes on a rack.
We would need at least 2 large freezers, a medium sized room with good ventilation for the potatoes, beans, onions, garlic, chilli and mushrooms.
Then there's the figs and the nuts......
We produced a lot of stuff one year and what was needed was a proper canning process. It's not going to happen here.

Nope, just another heavy duty outdoor rated extension cord....that is buried a few inches below lawn.
You could buy a length of underground cable and put plugs on the ends. Then it is a "temporary" installation but a lot safer.

We can grow two crops here too
So do I! The stuff I plant and a whole lot more weeds that plant (and replant and replant) themselves.

The mother feral cat ate from my hand yesterday. She appears to be declawed.
An escaped house cat I suspect.

Some in the US have not figured out the virus yet. I saw a person in the store yesterday without a mask on.
ONLY one?? People here are GENERALLY pretty good about it though younger people less so. I saw quite a few at the store on Thursday.

Will we learn from history?
Probably no more than we ever have before. It only takes a few to infect many.

There goes this pile of cartons.

The feral...or do you have other cats?

Didn't cool down last night, luckily I left the bedroom closed up tight all day,
so it was cooler there and I slept well under the ceiling fan.
Still humid as hell at 82...my brain feels poached.
