Better to hear it and find it visually, than to obliviously find with your bare feet. 😐
So true! The only time I found a dead mouse with my bare feet was in the middle of the night. I felt the fur before I stepped down, figured it was one of the rabbit fur mice the cats have. I think it was morning when I saw the actual critter, fortunately only dead, not chewed up and barfed out. I think that is the only time I've found an intact mouse carcass.

Clearly our cats would starve if they were outdoors and left to hunt mice for dinner since they always barf them back up.

If she approaches and makes first contact, you can pet her, and she will arch and rub against your legs. She will 'talk' continually while doing this. If you attempt to approach her she will retreat. I would never attempt to pick her up.
Our oldest cat is like that. We've got her from the humane society about 10 years ago. We were told it took 6 months for someone to catch her and bring her in. She was already spayed. She'll sit in DW's lap and has for several years but any motion sends her running off. Must let her sniff my hand and dip her head to pet her if I'm up. No head dip means "DON'T TOUCH!". She's now decided that I may sometimes pet her when I'm sitting on the couch. If she's out on the enclosed porch and I come in toward her direction (even though I have no idea she's there) she'll bolt for the window into the house.

Yes, catching her for trips to the vet can be "interesting".

I have no idea what to expect when her eggs hatch.
My GUESS is that she will just accept the fact that they exist in her world as they will have been around for nearly 2 weeks. Maybe they will merge with her littles for "this is how you do things" training when she takes her littles out to forage.

Yeah, here too......was going to grill the chicken early this morning, but ....now it feels like 86 but I got it going anyway. Will be glad later.
I cook on the pellet BBQ quite a bit even when it is over 100F outside. It heats the house too much to run the oven!

This is my hope. She isn't bothered by them. I hope she just takes them under her wing when her eggs hatch. She is a very good hen. Ranks around number 3. Nice solid disposition. Not mean but puts up with no crap.

I think someone or something killed all the kittens at my mom's house.
When I left work at her house last night all were alive, active and well and eating the dinner I had left out for them along with their mom.
When I stopped to feed them this morning on the way to the fields to run the dogs, they were all gone. Mom was there. I hoped they were just sleeping deeper under the deck. EVERY single time I've been there since they showed up, they are there and easy to find.
When I went to work this morning, most of the food was still on the plate. Mom was there. No kittens. I sat there with her and cried over them. They were coming around. They were rambunctious little devils playing with each other and I was trying to tame them so they would have a chance for a better life.
Maybe that black cat I saw yesterday morning had something to do with it.
Maybe some evil human did.
I'll never know.
I miss peaking out the window and watching their antics. And I feel so bad for their mother.
