Did you do the flashing at the chimney base DL?

I reached the ridge and trimmed the shingles overhanging the rake.

Did you do the flashing at the chimney base DL?

The flashing cap on the chimney is mortared in. The step flashing that was tucked up under it came out after I did the tear off so I reused them. I tacked down the underside of the shingles with a dot of roofing tar and weighed them down with the starter strips until it dries.

I did not remove the old step flashing from the house side. They were nailed to the sheathing under the siding. I would have had to remove the siding to get them off. So now, a goodly portion of the flashings are well exposed but as installed will still shed water. I haven't tacked the shingles down with tar yet. If this were my roof, I would tack them down then clean the tops of the exposed flashing and paint them black to match the roof. I need to bounce this off the future owner before I do that.

He may decide he is going to reside the house. The color is coming off the siding and exposing the bare aluminum. You can see that grey coming through on the upper courses of siding. If he does that, he can pull out the current step flashing and the nails along that edge and install new flashing before residing.

Tea anyone? Pot brewed on the counter.
Lovely day today. A bit on the warm side (29C) until this afternoon when some clouds showed up.
I've been out and about trying to get stuff done. The figs are ripe enough to attract the wasps and hornets so it's a bit perilous anywhere near them. I did get quite a few figs without getting stung.
I'm going to have a go at making hot fig chutney. A women who used to live in the main house made some a couple of years running and it was delicious. Really good in slightly sticky meringues.
I was cleaning my windows and noticed that I don't have finger prints on some of my fingers. It looks like the lamp sanding has worn them away. They are a bit sore.

I love fig season. They’ve been going strong at the local market here for a month or so. I give them another week, maybe two, before they’re gone till next year. I especially enjoy them cold from the fridge.
