BYC Café

Good evening Cafe.
I brewed a fresh pot; please help yourself. There is also some spiced fruit parkin to go with it.

Been a busy day; I also just published my first ever article for BYC :D on having a partially sighted chicken. It's been quite the experience - discovering I have such a chicken, and what to do about it!

Needed to trim Willie's spurs, just nip off the sharp tips.
Was easy last time, guillotine dog nail clippers, did them while he was standing on the roost after dark. I've 'trained' him by touching him and his feet, checking crop, while on the roost so he tolerates it.

This time not so much, not a clean cut, blade dull maybe from sitting out in the coop.
Had to cut one twice because it was shattered.
So then they need filing down.
Got some sand paper but he wouldn't stand still for long.
He walked along the roost and I just got quick swipes in when he paused.
He never alarmed or bit me, just tried to walk away, disturbing most the other birds.
Took a bit but got it done, it really was kind of funny.
Everyone got back to their places, wasn't full dark yet, and went to sleep.
Good for you aart. I've seen some supposedly very experienced chicken keepers make a right mess of trying to trim a roosters spurs, from taking way too much off to getting a spur dug in them in the process. I do most on their roosts. I do Cillin, Treacle, and Notch when they come to the house. It only takes a few seconds with an fine file.

Good evening Cafe.
Got a pot of tea on for those who fancy a cup. Just regular PG Tips but nice and strong.
Sun and showers here today. Form filling while it rained and coop cleaning and upsetting broodies while the sun shone.
Started the slow process of going over the bike in the hope it makes it through the winter; back sprocket needs replacing and there is a small leak from the rear shock absorber. Nothing too major thankfully.
