BYC Café

Some neighbors gave me a store bought chicken coop the other day. They bought it quite a few years ago and never got chickens. The boys barely got it squeezed into the coop after removing the door. Working great to brood in the coop, but need to put a little door in for them to get out.

I couldn't find 5 of them today and started to panic. One chick, one cheep... No holes. Where on earth??

Apparently they don't like the roosts that are 2" off the floor :gig
What a nice brooder they have!

Thanks for the coffee, DL.

I have a chiropractor appointment this morning, including x-rays to see how things are lining up, or not.

Chilly today, compared to yesterday, and tomorrow will be even colder. I don't mind; I hope this tells the fruit trees to wait a bit longer before budding.

Today is a friend's LAST day of work. Tomorrow is his FIRST day of retirement. He told me he parked in "his" parking spot for the last time. He doesn't know they have a surprise party for him this afternoon, and his wife is going to go. He should be very surprised. I told her to get pictures. I want to see the look on his face.

Our "daughter" (she's young enough to be at 35, so we call her that) was diagnosed with lymphoma last week. Last December, she tele-med conferenced with her doctor about a lump in her armpit. Her doc said to take some ibuprophen. When I heard that, I was so angry I couldn't even speak. Then what came out made the air blue.
How did your appointment go and what did the x-rays reveal?

I am very sorry your daughter got this diagnosis and I hope that she will be able to find appropriate treatment. :fl

No. Decent shmecent. I thought it was going to end up in a cartoon-like heap on the ground with the slightest movement! I can't imagine putting one of these things outside and using it. It does work well inside where it is already safe, though!
Just hoped .. I have never seem one I would recommend..
I bought one for my first six. Kept like a year to grow others up.. I did put lot's of wood and screws firm it up .. sold it later 100 bucks

I'll see the x-rays next week. This is just the every 18-24 month picture. I get an adjustment every 2-3 weeks. Love going to this guy. It used to be a ten minute drive from work... now it's an hour trek across town. So I plan other stuff to do in town when I go.

My "daughter" is someone I used to work with, not any relation. She and another coworker and I have all kept in touch. Get us three with two hubbies, and we can talk, laugh, and have a great day together.

One time we were talking about the Olympics, and I made the comment that I'm the same age as Nadia Comaneche (spelling?? they gymnast who was the first ever to get perfect 10s at the Olympics in 1976).

"Oh? So you were born in 1962? What month?"

"February."

"My mom was born the end of March that year."

"So, what you're telling me is, I'm six weeks older than your mother!?!"

"That's not what I meant!"

Brooder all set up and ready to go!
Now am scheming to shop for a few more pullet chicks,
just in case the straight run BCM's are all males.
Why would you pick 'straight run'? With recently hatched BCM chicks it is quite easy to determine their sex, so I would expect a so called 'straight run' to be all males :p

Called TS and they are all out of chicks!
Said they "had to sell them all a few days ago".
Hmmmm...will be curious to see if the towers still stand, or they're back to troughs.
Said more are coming in tomorrow morning, and they have no clue what kinds.
Might have to take a drive and see, want some EE.
Local mill has a few Lt. Brahma, 6 days old.
Decisions, decisions.

They'd need to be vent sexed, no?
This is a small time 'breeder' not a hatchery.
Most 'fancy' breeds are sold straight run around here.
