deadly nerve toxin created by blue-green algae in Anderson LakeThe problem here is that just about every pond around us is used for a swimming hole by kids and sometimes adults and it's standing water that is the most at risk.
I haven't read anything about running water in streams being a problem.
Our ponds get a green algae bloom a couple of times during the summer months. I've never heard of it being toxic but then.....I don't have any desire to even wade in it when it is like that even if I did wade in it.
Friends have often asked me why we don't swim in our pond and I tell them because it's infested with snapping turtles and I value my toes. Same reason I don't have ducks!
I also want to say, on the chickens behalf,,, if they have the runs, check the water container, is it green? I wash mine out every week and in the summer twice a week.deadly nerve toxin created by blue-green algae in Anderson Lake

Thank you Grandma. I'd like to prevent another dog mom and dad from going through what we did. And another dog from going through what Sid did. What a horrible this you all went through, I am so sorry!
Dang that is just plain scary! The vet who stabilized Sid for her trip to Columbia asked us specifically if there was an exposure to blue algae on our property. We told them no. This is the first I've read about it. Thanks for posting.deadly nerve toxin created by blue-green algae in Anderson Lake

Usually there is a list of lakes that have toxic algae. It is usually in June and July here.Nasty toxic algae blooms happening many places the last decade.
All part of accumulations of pollution on land and water.

chicks were intimidated but not beaten,
and got inside to roost OK.
